CNN must be kicking themselves for letting Glenn Beck get away.

CNN must be kicking themselves for letting Glenn Beck get away.

The third quarter isn’t quite over on the calendar, but it’s over in the world of ratings. Fox has a lot to celebrate, but everyone else is wondering what the hell hit them. Here are a dozen things that may surprise you about the latest cable news ratings.

1. A perfect ten. All ten of the top ten shows are on Fox News, powered by the O’Reilly-Hannity-Beck troika.

2. Beck kicks butt. Glenn Beck increased the ratings for his time slot a remarkable 136% over the third quarter of 2008.

3. Lucky 13. During September, Fox had the top thirteen programs in cable news.

4. Dominance. The O’Reilly Factor has now been the top-rated cable news show for an unprecedented 106 consecutive months.

5. Better and better. Fox News is the only cable news network to post across the board year-over-year increases.

6. Up, up and away. Every Fox News program airing between 4 pm and 11 pm showed growth. Most had double digit growth.

7. We’re number three! We’re number three! Fox is now the number three rated cable network, trailing only ESPN and USA.

8. Dagger to the heart. Fox News had more total viewers and more viewers in the 25-54 demographic than CNN and MSNBC combined in both total day and primetime.

9. Grasping at straws. CNN regained the second spot in cable news because MSNBC’s ratings have collapsed.

10. Watch out below. MSNBC’s total viewers fell by 10% and the coveted 25-54 demographic fell by 21%.

11. He who will not die. CNN’s “Larry King Live” outrated MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in the 25-54 demographic by 17%, the largest margin since her show premiered last September.

12. He who is slowly dying. “Anderson Cooper 360″ is down 56% year-to-year in total viewers and down 64% in the 25-54 demographic. No other cable news show suffered such a steep decline.

I usually watch Fox but I happened to catch a little bit of Anderson Cooper’s show last night. He gave Michael Moore two full segments, unchallenged. Not a syllable of argument, just a free soapbox from which to spew. I watched only to see if there would be any contrary views offered and none were. I went back to Fox.

This is why they are not “fair and unbiased” like journalism is supposed to be. CNN has always spewed junk from the left.
Hence the reason Beck is no longer there.
Good call.

As great as these numbers are for Fox News, ehre’s how they could dramatically improve them:

Grab Lou Dobbs from CNN. Hes one of the best free thinkers there is. Then make this the lineup:

7 PM EST: O’Reilly
8 PM EST Beck
9 PM EST Dobbs
10PM EST Greta

What happened to Hannity? I don’t really care. He’s tiresome and is unable to intelligently debate anyone. I’m no fan of the conceited and dopey O’Reilly either, but it’s a bit more interesting than Hannity (except when he and Dick Morris are selling each other’s books, or when he has that stupid trivia segment on).

Shepp can go too, by the way.

Great idea, Helen. Even though I watch the nightly Fox News line-up, I also get bored by Hannity. His debates with guests seem like “battle of the talking points” – where neither side acknowledges anything that the other has to say.

You may agree or disagree with Beck, O’Reilly, and Dobbs…but one thing is true: they are rarely boring!!

I actually preferred when Colmes was on. Hannity’s panel is also one-sided. I almost feel sorry for the lone liberal.

Same here, then I realize whoever that liberal is, he/she always digs him/herself further and further into a hole. And keeps going.

Yeah, no one else there to stack the dirt high enough to get them out of the hole they dug. :-)

i usually watch fox news, but last night i flipped over to msnbc out of curiosity. they spent the whole time bashing fox instead of reporting news. they’re dripping with jealousy, maddow is as desperate as i’ve ever seen her.

Fox needs to put Beck either in Shepard’s 7:00 or Greta’s 10:00. Beck is pulling prime time numbers at 5:00 – a typically slow hour when many people are at work. Imagine what his ratings would be in prime time.

The asexual split of Wolf maybe. :-)

I have tried (no really) to watch Countdown with Olby but its only a bash Fox News, Rush, and Sarah Palin. He reminds me of an old high school teacher that should have retired when my parents were his students.

The chief brain wizards at FoxNews need to change NOTHING. Not a damn thing. FoxNews crushes the compitition & covers the spread, day after day…week after week…month after month…& year after year.

From Fox & Friends to RedEye, & everything in between, they own their so called compitition. O’Reilly + Hannity + Beck + Cavuto + Greta + Shep + F n’ F + Red Eye + actual debate + hot info-babes = CABLE NEWS DOMINATION…& if you disagree with me you are probably a racist.

Hey! I watch CNN… When I get stuck in airports.

Fox will never beat USA (pro wresting and Burn Notice? Come on! Those rock!) but they deserve to be #1 over the other cable news channels.

I do not agree with all the Beck says but the fact that he does not suck ass to Obama and will confront him and his clowns is refreshing.

If ever I happen to catch MSNBC I feel like I am being indoctrinated into a cult or being scolded when they give the data. Hell, even during the Dodgers game I am watching on TBS this CNN news update comes on and in the sound bite they chirp how its good news for the economy (somehow) that job loss is not growing as fast as it could be and there is this ‘don’t think’ cheerleading for Obama tone seeping in. Nasty…

When I am in EU territory and parts of Asia I see some state influenced TV news there and to my senses (ears and eyes) CNN and MSNBC smack of the same kind of skewed delivery.

Go FOXY! Fox News FTW!

O’Reilly is getting on my nerves along with Hannity. Ego’s have taken over and they enjoy their own banter way too much. Greta, Beck, Dobbs and Shep would be very nice to see. As long as I don’t have to hear another letter from someone who purchased “Bold and Fresh” for their 12 year old!!

I still don’t mind O’Reilly or Hannity, I still they put out very good info & have good shows. But Beck is the cutting edge part of the FNC lineup. I have a feeling that Beck is gonna have to push O’Reilly in the proper direction, & get the feeling that every time Beck is right about another Obama whackjob, Bill sees the light, little by little.

The interesting thing for me is that Fox is almost becoming a monopoly for alternative news. Now that they have John Stossel, they’ve plucked the last remaining non-liberal from the major networks.

Considering that Fox is good with the news and the commentary, I dont care if it has one true blue republican conservative who spews what he wants to spew and has one sided debates. I mean one of who knows how many? I dont care. I don’t care for nor watch Hannity but hey there is a market for people like him and again one of what 5 or 6 that do commentary day in and day out doesn’t bother me. It is not comparable to the almost 100% one sided commentators on the other channels.

As for Anderson well I mean he sucks. He really does. He is catty, miserable, entitled… I can go on. His ratings suck because he sucks. He wats people to think of him as a serious journalist but he ain’t so no surprise.
