What kind of artist does President Obama like?
Rip-off artists.

matisse-watusiYou may have read that President Obama has introduced new, more contemporary art to the walls of the White House.

Turns out one of the artists is actually more of a rip-off artist. Alma Thomas, a long-time Washington resident and African-American painter has been ensnared in a new controversy.

Someone noticed that “Watusi (Hard Edge)” is a blatant copy of a 1953 Henri Matisse painting titled “L’Escargot.” The only real difference is that Thomas rotated the Matisse painting by 90 degrees and gave it an African name.

Here they are placed side by side. “Watusi” is on the left and rotated for your convenience.

We apologize if our headline lead you to believe this was a story about ACORN.

Update: Uh oh. The Alma Thomas painting has been removed from the White House.

Well, I don’t know about the majority of people, but this looks like a 2nd grade art project…not that there is anything wrong with 2nd graders’ art projects.

I notice that this little blurb fails to point out that, in addition to the rotation, the color palette used is totally different, and some of the shapes are slightly off. Clearly this is just some kind of crazy coincidence and not a weird and really funny example of what an exemplary judge of character Barry is.

Oh, and the artist is black so… saying the painting is a rip-off is also a hate-crime.

It seems the painting is in keeping with the Obama central theme: Phoniness.

so little people understand the severity of this kind of crap, infact, just yesterday i had people telling me that a full blown ripoff that was made for profit was totally cool, and i was just mad that i couldnt have it.

i guess you have to be an artist, or have common sense, to know that this crap is unacceptable
