Andrew Breitbart corners Bill Maher, gets him to admit he’s a socialist

by editor on September 27, 2010

Bill Maher’s Friday night HBO show featured guests Amy Holmes of CNN and Andrew Breitbart. (Seth McFarland was also there, but mercifully, didn’t participate in the following exchange about ObamaCare and the Democrats dwindling hopes for November.)

There are two great moments in this clip:

1. The look on Maher’s face when Breitbart corners him about his longtime nonsensical claim that he’s a libertarian and forces him to admit he’s a socialist.

2. When Maher says the only reason the American people don’t like ObamaCare is because they’re stupid.

Holmes: They talked endlessly about it and their agenda was rejected by the American people, that’s a simple fact.
Maher: Because they’re stupid.
Breitbart: So you’re, you’re officially not a Libertarian anymore, right? I mean, this position…
Maher: Well..
Breitbart: …has run so far from the Libertarian position. Is this, so you admit that you have more of a, you know, European socialist leaning perspective on this issue?
(AUDIENCE LAUGHTER)
Breitbart: Why is that funny?
Maher: I’m..I’m not afraid…it’s not…I’m not afraid to say European socialism works.

Isn’t the popularity (such as it is) of people like Bill Maher or Jon Stewart and indication that their respective audiences are both abysmally ignorant and incapable of skeptical thought?

Oh, I don’t know about that. I watch The Daily Show (but not Maher’s show – he’s an idiot) and I understand when they weave political bias into their show.
I do like Stewart, even though, sometimes, I have to put up with nonsense.

He keeps calling Americans stupid, however the ones that are stupid are his audience members. Anything he says makes them laugh to the point where he actually had to say that a statement wasn’t necessarily funny and he seems to want to shut them up sometimes. The idiots are the ones that follow his drivel.

“He keeps calling Americans stupid”

In his defense Kimmy, if we put little Billy’s comment in context… all the Americans that vote for Dumbocrats and Rhinos are stupid. All the Americans that support a leader because of their skin color are stupid. All the Americans that endorse failed systems of economics and government, (i.e., socialism/communism/Marxism) are stupid. All the Americans who would rather receive government compesation rather than earn their own way in life are stupid. All Americans who would sacrifice their eternal freedom for a little temporary comfort are stupid.

I know little Billy didn’t mean it that way, but context isn’t a libtards strong point anyway.

Why do all these people who believe in the European socialist system still live in the United States? If they were true believers in European socialism they would move to Europe. The whole point of the United States is that we are not Europe.

You don’t get it. Socialism is for the people, NOT the socialist. The socialist does’nt believe in do what they say, that is for the lesser people, the peasants. Do as I say not as I do.

I think a socialist wants to wash their hands of charity. If the government can take care of the peasants’ needs is one less headache or obligation to care about. Then no socialist ever has to feel bad about not providing from their own funds into the improvement of lives of others.

Yep. Two things.

A farmer in Soviet Russia was asked by the party leader:

“If you have two barns, you’d give one to the state, and keep the other for yourself, right?”
Farmer: “yes!”
“If you have two tractors, you’d give one to the state, and keep the other for yourself, right?”
Farmer: “yes!”
“If you have two cows, you’d give one to the state, and keep the other for yourself, right?”
Farmer: “yes!”
The leader was on a roll.
“If you have two chickens, you’d give one to the state, and keep the other for yourself, right?”
Farmer: “no.”
“Why not?”
Farmer: “I *have* two chickens.”

On a sadder note, when the socialists were in charge of charity in the Ukraine in the 1930′s, they introduced a new term to the world: “democide” — the mass killings of a people by their government. While this was happening, our “intelligentsia” was hobnobbing with Stalin, telling their fellows back home that they’ve “seen the future and it works”. Evidently it was in the “arbeit macht frei” sense.

That is funny and totally comparable to today. If it is modify to fit Obama it will totally work.

Yeah it is disgusting what was happening it is just that Russia was being courted I understand so he wouldn’t turn to Hitler is that correct?

No, they were in love with what Stalin was doing. It was a whole bunch of liberals from government and from the media, doing a “fact finding” trip to USSR. Some really disturbing quotes and parallels to our time. Evidently nobody remembers what Santayana said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Google Lincoln Steffens for the sordid story. These were the same people ridiculing Harding as an idiot, but the more you read about him (Harding), the more you realize that he got profoundly screwed by history, the liberals, and the Republican party establishment. I guess history repeats itself over and over and over.

Isn’t it ironic that all these wealthy Hollywood types advocate socialism for the rest of us.
They won’t stand in bread lines or live in a state sponsored co-op, they will be the socialist elite.
The elite socialists will live in their Hollywood dachas and attend state dinners with the tsars.
The rest of us will live in the basement of the tractor factory and eat sawdust bread.

Maher is the equivalent of the small little dog that lives under the porch that rushes out takes a bite at your ankle and beats tail back under the porch. His idea of European socialist certainly is not working in Europe, they are tearing themselves apart with one failing welfare state after another> Maher, I would be happy to drive you to the terminal, only condition is that you keep your ignorance to yourself

like all the other self-professed “intellectual elite” it is socialism for the, and not for me….
this tool bag is just that-he is not funny-just a tool, and just a big mouth, with not much to say, other than he hates America, hates mankind, and loves to go to the playboy mansion where his “Celebrity” can get him laid by women too stupid to know what a douche he is.
The only time he has ever gotten laid in his life, was when he had pockets full of cocaine at the playboy mansion. No woman in her right mind would ever give a little turd like him the time of day-so to pay him lipservice here is a little wrong! Mahr is a douche-any questions?

It is all about pure, naked power. It is no fun to be rich if everybody else is rich. This is why they want socialism — to impoverish the entire nation so they can feel better than us.

We live in a blessed age, where the poorest among us has conveniences, games, food, and luxury items that kings only a few hundred years ago couldn’t have dreamed of. Prosperity is the socialists nightmare, and ignorance is their weapon of choice. They’d love to take that prosperity away, bit by bit, until us non-political class types live in our proper squalor. Look how well Chavez does it — all the poor people love him, even though the main cause of their poverty is Hugo himself.

I look at how NHS (Government Health Care) is ran as a political engine to keep the Labor party in charge in Britain, how they “reform” it, and run all sorts of elections based upon “fixing” it, when that would be the absolute last thing on their priorities. In the sense that it would serve as the basis for liberal domination of the political landscape in perpetuity, the plan works, never mind the appalling and staggering human cost. *That’s* what Obama wants.

They have it with the Chicago school system, and it has been driving elections for decades, even though nobody in Chicago politics actually gives a rat’s ass whether or not the kids get educated.

They even have implemented busing, so that if you give a damn about your kids education, you still can’t get away from it.

Lib politicians are scum. Chicago politicians lower the bar on scum.

Back some years ago there was an increase in the “outing” of closet homosexuals in sports and the media.

Wouldn’t it be great if folks like Breitbart et al could “out” more MSM and Hollywood closet Socialists as a public service to the country?

I know I’d appreciate it !

To be honest, I would rather see more MSM and Hollywood conservatives outed and taking about their beliefs. Thank God it is starting, but honestly there has to be more then what we are seeing. I assume most of the MSM and Hollywood are socliast liberals… They don’t need ‘outed.’ (Heck Bill Mahr has never needed to be outed, he’s always been this idiotic.) But Conservative people in both forms of media? We need more of them to stand up and not worry about it.

Yep, I plan to buy anything that either Ben Stein or Dennis Miller are in, so they collect a little more in royalties.

We should make a list of the conservative actors that are “out”, so we can patronize them. They took a monster career hit for saying what they believe in, and we owe it to them. Places like Fox and talk radio have proved that conservatives are a viable market. Hollywood is more loyal to the dollar than to their principles, and if they see money in it, eventually they will get away from their whiney-assed propaganda.

Yeah, it was a good show. Lansbury has had quite the career, and there is no way in hell that I would ever live in Cabot Cove.

Used to be, in the early days of imdb, that Greg Bulmash wrote a ‘zine called the “washed update” tracking the careers of hollywood characters past their prime. It turned into an episode listing of MSW and also Love Boat, and I think that’s when the lawyers hit him with a cease & desist letter.
