Bad timing: Cuba runs out of toilet paper just as its economy goes into the toilet

We are highly-trained economists here at IHateTheMedia.com. So we apologize if you’re confused by our use of this technical jargon: Cuba’s economy sucks donkey.

In layman’s terms, fifty years of Communism has brought them to the latest in a long series of serious economic crises.

For god’s sake, man, they’re running out of toilet paper. And officials on the Communist-ruled island say the situation might not improve until the end of the year.

Reuters reports from the People’s Paradise of Cuba:

Officials said they were lowering the prices of 24 basic goods to help Cubans get through the difficulties provoked in part by the global financial crisis and three destructive hurricanes that struck the island last year.

Cuba’s financial reserves have been depleted by increased spending for imports and reduced export income, which has forced the communist-led government to take extraordinary measures to keep the economy afloat.

“The corporation has taken all the steps so that at the end of the year there will be an important importation of toilet paper,” an official with state conglomerate Cimex said on state-run Radio Rebelde.

Comment One: Calling the government monopoly that controls every aspect of Cuban life “The Corporation” would be amusing if it weren’t frightening.

Comment Two: “The corporation” doesn’t mention if toilet paper will be rationed for patients in Cuba’s glorious public health program. You know, the one that serves as a blueprint for the one Democrats want you to have.

Well, why didn’t they consult with Cheryl Crow for heavens sake? Her proposal of limiting toilet paper usage to one square per bathroom visit would’ve saved the day!

So, do you spose’ Fidel and Raul are Chaminless?

the same thing happened when polish socialism was on the edge of bancrupcy.
There was deficit of all kinds of paper – so they even ordered children in schools to write smaller letters (so exercise books will last longer).
