Is there anyone on television more distasteful than Bill Maher?
The liberal HBO talk show host has done it again, this time insulting the U.S. military
Here’s what the so-called comedian had to say on his March 27 HBO show:
“Forget about bringing the troops home Iraq – we need to get the troops home from World War II,” Maher said. “Can anybody tell me why in 2009, we still have more than 50,000 troops in Germany and 30,000 in Japan? At some point these people are going to have to learn to rape themselves.”
The insults continued, but let’s get to the response from former Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, author of “House to House.” He’s already won a Silver Star and a Bronze Star and has been recommended for the Medal of Honor.
“While Democrats want to accuse the right in America of being hijacked by the talking points of Rush Limbaugh and talk radio,” Bellavia noted, “it is more than a little odd to me that the greatest minds on the left today are community organizers, washed up former sports commentators and stand up comedians. It’s insensitive and hurtful.”
“The fact is that the German people would be the first to protest our leaving their country,” Bellavia continued. “Areas like Vilseck would have no economy without American business and young foolish soldiers emptying their bank accounts on the German local scene.”
The Fallujah veteran said he wasn’t surprised by Maher remarks and explained many on the left like Maher don’t understand the concept of military service.
“Maher’s comments are nothing surprising to me,” Bellavia said. “Newsflash – the left doesn’t get the military. They don’t understand how a person can see something bigger then themselves. And the vast majority of liberals have zero idea of what we face overseas and moreover, cannot understand any situation that could possibly involve taking the life at war. They never have. And they never will.”
Funny thing is, there’s probably some Taliban with a satellite dish outside his cave in Waziristan keeping track of which western “comedians” will be the first to be eliminated when they take over.
Maher’s only hope is that he’s so completely unfunny that the Taliban never figure out he’s a supposed to be a comedian.

There are a lot of people who are distasteful than Bill Maher. Try Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity; you could also substitute the word “distasteful” with “hypocritical” as well, your choice.
All I have to say to Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia is this: Right on! Right on! Bravo and well said, sir.
And who will these igits run to when they need someone to defend our country? And who will be faithful to defend them? Our military men and women will. What would people like Maher, who make disgusting comments like that, do if they were suddenly left to fend for themselves?

So the reason we are dropping all those U.S. tax dollars in Germany is to support the GERMAN ECONOMY? Fuck that, bring all the troops home.
Yes, it’s to support the German Economy and to fatten the wallets of the German nationals at the expense of the US soldier and their families! I am a soldiers wife and have lived in Vilseck for the past three years. I, personally, can attest to the fact that American Soldiers and their families are being financially “screwed” by the German Nationals. Not just the German Nationals and Businesses off the American Army post, but the Germans who run all of the Army Facilities on the Army posts as well (housing ect). All are Army facilities are “german ran” and the business practices are “shisty” and extremely dishonest! They are not above “extortion” and when a Soldier try to get some help we are given the run around and financially threatened to have more money taken from us if we even attempt to request an investigation of “shisty” business dealings..Think you can find one American to speak too in the housing office? Nope! They are all German and they all cover each others behinds at the expense of the American soldier and their families. The last three years of living here has just been one case of parasitic Germans feeding on our bank account after another. Talk to any Army family that has lived in Vilseck and they all have tales of being “financially” screwed, on more then one occasion, by the Germans on and off our American Army Posts!!!

Oh and I’d like to say that a few nights ago, Greg Gutfeld of Red Eye insulted the Canadian military and there was outrage all over the place from Americans. Bill Maher insults our own military, and all of a sudden, its no big deal. It’s pretty simple on the internet: if you’re left, you get a free pass–make it thousands of them, if you lean right, then you’re done.

I am a vet; husband is retired military; G-d bless each & every one of our soldiers/airman/sailors & especially the marines. That said; bring them all home; guard our own borders & tell the ungrateful jerks in the rest of the world to do their own dying.
How long do you suppose this piece of carp Maher would last in a room with a real soldier? Especially after the soldier has read his putrid material.

Maher and for that matter, Obama, have no idea how an effective military keeps the peace by maintaining a credible threat against potential adversaries. Without that threat and the willingness to use it once in a while, there will be more trouble in the world… not less.
As a former military officer who doesn’t miss most of it, I would like to point out that the major problem that has always caused poor perceptions of the military is the rigidity and dogmatism of military people themselves…the fact that many have chosen to view themselves as somehow apart from the rest of society and living by a “code” they view as superior to those in the civilian world whom they feel just don’t “get it”…not to mention the dominance of conservative ideology. And then there’s the tendency to wrap themselves in the flag to justify their ideology.
Our country was founded by rebels – those who questioned and fought established authority – whereast the military is completely predicated on regimentation and not questioning authority. If we had a draft and brought a broader sub-section of the population into the military, over time the culture might change. But the all-volunteer force and corps of professional soldiers had over the decades created a basically right-wing institution.
As a final note…just because you serve, doesn’t make you a “hero.” I served 8 years and don’t consider myself a hero. The vast majority of the military never sets foot in a combat zone and trust me…there is plenty of downtime and there are plenty of perks to serving. Most who serve in the military are not “sacrificing” and many are doing much better than civilian counterparts!
There are two sides to the story. I do realize that having bases in Germany etc is useless. (French bases were closed a while back). It is not necessary unless the country NEEDS US for MILITARY reasons there. Otherwise there is no need. I would rather there be a base in places like Somalia or near Darfur. However I find it disgusting that this man finds the time to insult people who are willing to do what I cannot which is to fight for a country and its citizens. I also agree that if the world is overrunned by Islamists Bill Maher will not be saved. His arrogance will not save him from being beheaded, because unless he is a major hypocrite he will deny that Allah exists. At least here in the US and thanks in great part for the military he can say a lot of BS and insult Christians and Jews and deny G-d’s existence but no one in their right mind nor true believers would even think of blowing his head off. Do you think Muslims will have that restraint?

Note the audience reaction to his jokes. Stuttering and halting laughs as an attempt to feel if what was said was really funny and should be worthy of a laugh. It was weak and forced laughter. Awkward…

I am way ahead of you on that whole ‘rape yourself’ point Bill: I saw the documentary ‘By the People’ on your network. Viewing it was akin to brutal and repeated rape. The forced laughter at Obama trying to show he could ‘lead’ was as palpable as when you try to get laugh from a TV audience using your D game (comedy wise) and not from your doing stand up with better thought out material.
Insulting the Military is to give offense to a wide range of professionals in varied fields. For a man with ONE lone talent (or as some would say ‘talent’) that you possess to make such a jab makes you seem petty and small. Also more then a bit uninformed as to the scope of what you were trying to make fun of.
You had more solid footing going after Carrie Prejean’s tits with your brand of jokes then taking on the Armed Forces. Thanks to your kissing some ass of old man Hef you at least know something about tits and can still get to see and touch a few here and there… What you know of the role of the Military in the modern world would seem to be far less then your knowledge of how not to have dead air in between forced laughs during a recording of your TV show due to your stale jokes; AKA not all that much.
