There's no way this guy could get into a British university.
In a statement that’s either refreshingly politically incorrect or remarkably blunt or maybe both, British universities have announced that they will attempt to cut costs by “culling the stupids.”
Henceforth, only the top one third of applicants will be accepted into British universities. Theoretically, those smart kids will be able to figure out that that means two thirds of students who would have been accepted into universities in the past will be rejected this year.
Perhaps the Brits should simply do as we do here in America and elevate their idiots to vice president.

someone should tell governor schwarznegger about that
I’ve never believed in this “send every child to college” bit. Not all people are meant for college. We should revamp our community colleges to include training in trades and technical areas, and send kids there as well. We need auto mechanics, plumbers, electronics techs, etc, and they are not going to learn this at a university.
And then there are those that simply just don’t have the aptitude for either, and just have to work at menial jobs forever. Can’t force them into jobs they can’t handle.
(By the way, as a side note, unrelated, I saw sharing this link with others just now and so of you may appreciate it. Watch free lecture’s form many universities: http://academicearth.org/)
Did they really put it that way? LOL LOL
The truth is.. hmmm – how to say this? I tried college at 37. It was truly awful; many of my teachers hated/disliked me and I was none too fond of them, by the end of the semesters. Some people, even relatively smart ones, (I’m not brilliant but I know my IQ and it has 3 digits.) really don’t have the ability to go to college. It isn’t aptitude. It is something more subtle.
My husband and I are both like that. My husband loves computers – we have had a home computer since Apple II days.. He assembles our home computers, makes good money at Boeing (NC programming)and even some MS-VB programming – but both of us HATED college. We both count those years (we were students) as the very worse of our lives.
We just didn’t fit in, both of us dropped out after only 2 years or a little less. A science teacher berated me for wearing a cross.. I was 37 and stood up to him! (I think) Teachers want malleable minds, I would suggest some minds don’t like that kind invasion and expectation of subservience/submission. That kind of weird interplay of emotions and personalities occurred in several classes.
Not all, but enough teachers were unpleasant enough that I realized I was not university material (this was a community college but I had hoped to go on in time.) and that I would not make it even another year.
It made me realize that college was still like the worse in HS – being told what to do and how to do it, what to think and I came home and never went back. I can learn on my own. Now, with the Internet, as you say, the world opens up even more.
I would suggest that it isn’t only brains/IQ/Intelligence that makes scholars or good university students.. but something far more subtle.
