Back when we were in kindergarten our biggest concern was learning our ABCs. Apparently, the kids in Alameda, California have bigger (and stranger) things to worry about.

California’s Alameda Unified School District may institute a supplemental curriculum aimed at eradicating “homophobia” in kindergarten kids.

Let’s just pause for a moment while you digest that concept.

OK?

“Nowhere at anytime did it give any protection for children being bullied because of their faith, their religion, their size, their race, ethnicity,” said Brad Dacus, founder of the Pacific Justice Institute. “It is only going to give this special anti-bullying protection for homosexuals and transsexuals.”

Welcome to Alameda, California. Where the kids don’t know their ABCs, but do know their AC/DCs.

What a bunch of bozos. Kids that age don’t have a clue what they’d be talking about.

I think the purpose of “anti-bullying” training like this is educating students to not bully or threaten students who are different. Bullying does start in grade school so what’s the worst that could come from this kind of class and training? If parents encourage bullying they can talk to their kids about it.

Aren’t they supposed to be teaching things like math and english? Why are they sexualizing children? What are they up to in Alameda, hmmm?

This is why America’s children are growing up and are unable to cope with the realities of life. Back in the day, we learned to cope with bullies, race, gender, death, and homosexuals. If someones feelings were hurt…too bad…we dealt with it and moved on. Dealing with life is how character is built in a child…not with some screwball trying to normalize the abnormal.

Without advance education cases like the 13 year old boy who hung himself over rampant bullying will keep happening.

In reply to your profoundly retarded first post, there is no training to avoid bullying of the religious, size, weight, race, etc; but there is one for homos? youre gonna have to stop just reading the title, if you want the whole story.

in reply to this equally retarded post, i have a friend, who is so stupid liberal, he thinks che is akin to our founding fathers, he also got pissed about me joking on “gay” kids, and brought up this same case.

NEWSFLASH: child suicide isnt some miraculous new thing the gays invented, just the other day, a kid committed suicide for not being able to play video games, kids have weak minds, and its up to responsible parents to keep that from happening to their kids, so here are some tips:
-dont teach or let your kid be taught how to commit suicide
-teach your kid what exactly death is
-teach your kid, that its normal to feel out of norm feelings, it doesnt mean your gay, it just means you are a kid
-DONT LET YOUR F*CKING KID GO TO SCHOOL IN A DRESS

jesus christ people, there is no such thing as a gay kid, gender identity is something ALL children undergo, and if nobody would interfere with it, they wouldn’t think they were gay.

some of us actually know what we are talking about, so you would do wise to believe me, or find out for yourself (dont read books though, they are biased and of no use)

Hey Dan,
Perhaps if you had undergone some sensitivity training you wouldn’t use the term “retarded” for something that you don’t agree with or think is stupid. Please apologize.

The curriculum under consideration is also known as lesson 9. That is because it is an addendum to 8 other lessons already in use. So the new material doesn’t cover the same issues as the prior lessons although there is some overlap. In fact the kindergartner lesson is totally generic and could be used as foundational to any lessons on tolerance and anti-bullying. Including on “religious, size, weight, race, etc”. The fact that the PJI representative quoted in the article chooses to ignore this isn’t surprising to me.

Go check out the curriculum. Its available on the AUSD website. There isn’t even any mention of homosexuality in the kindergarten level, or 1rst or 2nd grades for that matter.

Are the parents just protesting for the fun of it then? They just made it up so they’d have something to do?

School District Seeks to Re-Educate “Homophobic” Kindergartners
http://www.pacificjustice.org/resources/news/focusdetails.cfm?ID=PR090512a

City: Alameda, CA
May 12, 2009

The Alameda Board of Education will consider supplemental curriculum tonight which seeks to eradicate “homophobia” from students barely old enough to write their names.

The curriculum is being touted by officials in the Alameda Unified School District as necessary to “create safe schools for all children,” but it focuses almost exclusively on sexual orientation and gender identity. In a recent question and answer memo defending the proposed curriculum, the District lamented that “homophobia is still very much present in many of our schools and communities” and insisted that “students of all ages must be given an opportunity to learn that the words ‘gay’ and ‘lesbian’ are adjectives that should be used with respect to describe people in their community, not words used in a negative way. . .” The District further claimed that “using anti-gay slurs starts as early as kindergarten,” and therefore all students must be drilled with positive portrayals of gays, lesbians and transgender people.

PJI staff attorneys have written to the Board in opposition to the curriculum and will address the Board meeting to point out that the so-called “Safe Schools” effort does nothing to counter the most significant sources of school bullying and harassment, such as race, religion, gender, physical appearance, and socioeconomic status. Instead, the supplemental curriculum focuses exclusively on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, commented, “It is both risky and wrong to ignore the real causes of school bullying in favor of a politically correct propaganda program. If anyone needs a lesson against name-calling, it is those who are labeling our kindergartners as homophobic.”

I sat through the 8 hours of public hearings. Being a supporter of the curriculum I would prefer not to comment on the motivations of all those in opposition. However, many of the speakers in opposition claimed that they would be supportive of an alternative curriculum, but offered no specific suggestions other then suggesting that they wanted to be involved in creating it. Therefore, I’m not sure how what they would create would be substantially different then what was created.

PJI is hardly an impartial source and as such is clearly trying to inflame the situation. Check what PJI is saying versus the kindergarten lesson plan.
