Maybe some of those Special Olympics kids could have helped President Obama with his basketball picks.
On Monday’s “Hardball,” the MSNBC host damn near got delirious about the President. He called him “incredibly on target,” “close to brilliant,” “unbelievable” and “amazing.” Was he talking about his economic program? His foreign policy? His domestic policy?
No. He was talking about the NCAA college basketball tournament picks Obama made for ESPN.
“So how’s President Obama doing?” Matthews said. “His job approval ratings are still high. What about his NCAA bracket picks? Actually, they‘re close to brilliant. It’s amazing how the guy has extra I.Q. points to do this stuff. But he is incredibly on target with—of course, he‘s picked the higher seeds, of course.”
As NewsBusters points out, “When you dig into the numbers, out of all the entrants into ESPN.com’s Tournament Challenge 2009, Obama currently ranks 2,167,290, which makes his relative score compared to others 53.20 percent.
Even worse for Matthews, John McCain had a better record. According to The Hill, “…if the presidential election were an office pool, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) would have won the first weekend of play in a landslide over Obama.”
“McCain’s bracket has 14 teams picked correctly headed into the Sweet Sixteen, placing him in the 94th percentile after the first weekend of play.”
“The president has been less lucky. Despite having a brother-in-law who coaches Oregon State’s team, Obama fell short in a number of the first-round match-ups that kept Washington and the rest of the country distracted from work Thursday and Friday afternoon.”
This should come as no surprise, since Obama has a long history of bad picks — Tim Geithner, Bill Richardson, Tom Daschle, Eric Holder, Hilda Solis, Ron Kirk and last, but not least, Joe Biden.

The president has been less lucky
…inferring of course that McCain is just “lucky.”
Every…single…MSM…word is parsed in favor of Ogabe.
Drip, drip, drip…
If one picked the higher-seeded team in each match-up of the first 2 rounds of the NCAA, you’d be at about a 50% percentile on the ESPN contest. What an accomplishment!
Brilliant site guys. Keep up the good work.
And can you believe that the AP actually has someone releasing updates on
Obama’s bracket and it’s progress? I found an AP release Friday morning
talking about how he took “a hit” missing with Memphis and Duke last night.
What a farce. I think I might have respected the guy a bit more if he hadn’t
filled out a bracket under the excuse, “While you’re all filling out
brackets in order to kill time and inject life into your soul-sucking office
jobs I’m trying to save the world from total collapse. So sorry, no time to
worry about if Cleveland State can make it out of the opening weekend.”
