Democrat Congressman Pete Stark, as in Stark raving lunatic
Traveling overseas? Then you’re going to need to exchange your American dollars into zlotys or bolivars or doubloons. And liberal Congressman Pete Stark sees that as opportunity to dig deeper into your pocket.
Here is how the left wing lunatic makes his case in The Hill:
Wealthy traders and big financial institutions make huge bets on the fluctuations in currency value, and they can make massive profits if their bets are correct. This type of speculation helped to worsen the recent financial crisis and serves no purpose other than to make a few people and institutions even richer.
Today, I introduced H.R. 5783, the Investing in Our Future Act. My legislation would simply impose a small tax — of 0.005 percent — on these currency transactions. The money raised would be put toward investments in children, global health and climate change mitigation.
Of course, what Stark doesn’t say is that the tax would also be felt by the average Joe taking a vacation overseas.
So with that in mind, we make this heartfelt appeal to anyone who knows Mr. Stark:
Please let the esteemed congressman know that there already is a tax on currency. We pay it through interest rates established by the Federal Reserve and through the inflation brought about by the hyper creation of fiat money.
While you’re at it could you also please inform him that if he is really so concerned with the children, perhaps he should work against the trillions of dollars in debt this congress and this President are assigning to them.
Now please remove your hand from my pocket, Congressman.

Democrats are concerned about Americans in this tough economy.
However, it isn’t the unemployed Americans they are concerned about. They are concerned about the ones who actually make money.
If there is 1 thing Democrats have learned from Hugo Chavez, its that Blaming the Poor for your countries ills doesn’t pay the bills.
So in chorus, Democrats sing ‘How DARE those EVIL EVIL RICH people make any money? Obviously, they are just not taxed enough’ and ‘Tax them, they are DAMN lucky we don’t just nationalize their businesses.’

“This type of speculation…serves no purpose other than to make a few people and institutions even richer.”
Well gee, what type of speculation serves a purpose other than making money? Is there some financial vehicle wherein people invest their funds with absolutely no chance for monetary gain (other than say, financing Air America or an Oliver Stone movie)??
Stark is a vacuous dipshit. (ie; typical lefty politician)

True enough Pittsburgh. But that’s an involuntary “investment”. Who’d be paying in to that slush fund if they had a choice?

Anybody else notice that his arithmetic is wrong? $4 trillion per day times .005 percent tax rate does NOT equal $28 billion in tax revenue. Not even close. I even tried to subtract weekends and holidays and it still isn’t close. What is it with liberals and arithmetic?

J.P. — How can you balk at slight disagreement with libby-math. Wasn’t it our Messiah himself who claimed to have visited all 57 states? And then there’s Algore who invented the internet, between times humping his masseuses. And his buddy Slick “I did NOT have sex with that woman, (ahhhh??) Monica Lewinski” Willie. The Lame Stream media shat all over Dan Quayle, but not a word about these clowns…

Actually, I wrote a column about liberals and numbers in 2008. They literally don’t comprehend them: http://www.jpattitude.com/081002.php

Not being religious, I’m not certain about this, but, isn’t this exactly what the famous “money changers” were doing at the temple???

The sin of the money changers was not in what they were doing, but in where they were doing it.

The location was innappropriate, however what they were doing was hurting the people overall as well. The people in power were using increasing taxes to exercise control over the people and fill their coffers. This is bad. I do believe that Jesus would have disagreed with the political and economical status that lead to such things, but yes mainly because it LED people to do it IN THE TEMPLE, bringing such political and economical garbage into the temple where it is supposed to be a spiritual sanctuary would anger anyone whose main purpose is to bring spiritual sanity into the society.

Taxes? This isn’t a parable against taxes. In fact, as the story continues, Jesus utters the famous “Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s” line. The main thing here is not to fall into the liberal trap of interpreting the money changers parable as being about Jesus hating profit and free enterprise. Jesus was upset about the defiling of His Father’s house, pure and simple.

It wasn’t a parable at all. It was something that happened, something He saw and then took action upon it.
Right… if something belongs to Caesar give it to him, but do not give to Caesar what belongs to G-d which in essence and is more importantly the soul. A lot of people consider money to be their deity and give their souls to money and the pursuit of power, the powerful use taxes to build for themselves a kingdom that is not of G-d’s. I am sure you would agree this is true and that it is wrong.
Money and Power HAVE their usage within the confines of the Kingdom of G-d and Jesus did speak to that (many times). So no, He was/is not against the RIGHT usage of money and power. You are right that He wasn’t/isn’t against taxes, free entreprise and capitalism per se.
What He was/is against though was the INCORRECT and ungodly usages of money and power. If tax collectors collected what was fair and right, no problem, if they collected unfair taxes, problem. The leaders collect fair taxes, no problem, unfair taxes, problem. It is all about motives. So it is not that I am saying that Jesus was/is against taxes, He just wanted everyone to put the right perspective when it comes to money and power, to USE money and power correctly and within the confines of the Kingdom of G-d AND not allow corruption that comes from the love of money and power to overflow into His Father’s Temple.
What I am trying to say is that UNFORTUNATELY due to the corruption that plagued first century Israel not only were the money changers at the Temple, but they were there stealing (taxing inappropriately, using incorrect weights, etc) from people, THAT more than anything was the reason for His outburst. Also among them were people selling second rate animals to be sacrificed in the Temple YET asking people to pay through the nose for them. If it wasn’t the fact that they were corrupting their jobs and their merchandise and exploiting the people (in the Temple), then why call them thieves and vipers?
Had the money changers been doing their jobs appropriately without malice and without greed (with the mind of helping people pay their taxes and have enough for quality sacrificial animals) one has to wonder if Jesus reaction to their presence within the Temple walls per se would have been of lesser note.

Ms. Kimmy, I appreciate and enjoy your thoughts, especially along this line. Here at IHTM, sometimes I enjoy some sophomoric chuckles, most times I leave disgusted, and every once in a while I leave with a renewed faith that things will be OK. Thanks for the wisdom, and AMEN!

Today, I introduced H.R. 666, the Divesting pf Our Hacks Act. My legislation would simply impose a small tax — of 50 percent — on the stupid things people like Pete Stark and other demo-crites come up with. The money raised would be put toward investments in removing all leftist, commie, solialists and just plain idiots from the congress.

This Stark fellow is a first rate fool, and apparently quite proud to flaunt it. Anyone else see/hear the clip of him calling the minutemen murderers?
