FBI reports big decrease in murders, big increase in gun sales. Hey, how is that possible?

A new FBI report takes direct aim at the heart of gun control

More guns, less crime? Looks like America’s Second Amendment enemies shot their mouths off one too many times. The basic tenet of their anti-gun religion has just been disproved by a new FBI crime report.

The NRA gleefully reports the depressing details for dogmatic Democrats:

Last week, the FBI issued its preliminary 2009 crime report, showing that the number of murders in the first half of 2009 decreased 10 percent compared to the first half of 2008. If the trend holds for the remainder of 2009, it will be the single greatest one-year decrease in the number of murders since at least 1960, the earliest year for which national data are available through the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Also, the per capita murder rate for 2009 will be 51 percent lower than the all-time high recorded in 1991, and it will be the lowest rate since 1963—a 46-year low. Final figures for 2009 will be released by the FBI next year.

According to gun control supporter dogma—“more guns means more crime”—the number of privately owned firearms must have decreased 10 percent in 2009. To the contrary, however, the number rose between 1.5 and 2 percent, to an all-time high. For the better part of the last 15 months, firearms, ammunition, and “large” ammunition magazines have been sold in what appear to be record quantities. And, the firearms that were most commonly purchased in 2009 are those that gun control supporters most want to be banned—AR-15s, similar semi-automatic rifles, and handguns designed for defense. The National Shooting Sports Foundation already estimates record ammunition sales in 2009, dominated by .223 Remington, 7.62×39mm, 9mm and other calibers widely favored for defensive purposes.

Also indicative of the upward trend in firearm sales, the number of national instant check transactions rose 24.5 percent in the first six months of 2009 compared to the first six months in 2008, the greatest increase since NICS’ inception in 1998. Through the end of October, NICS transactions rose18 percent, compared to the same period in 2008.

Consider this evidence that gun control isn’t about guns, it’s about control.

jak, 60 Minutes might run the story, but they will change it into “Murder’s down as Obama Presidency brings in new age of love, hope and wonder!”

There was a similar trend when the colonial militias started stockpiling arms and ammunition before the war for independence. Hmmm.

the 60 minutes piece will be about how 90% of the millions of guns that were legally bought being sent to Mexico-although it seems as though they like big swords for beheadings down there, more than they like guns!

Si! Puntas de loco estámos loco en las cabezas! (sorry I only speak English somewhat correctly)

Yeah, those crazy bitc*es are touched in the head. But its not just swords and the whole choppy/choppy bit. There is the time honored immolation in a 55 gallon drum act and even a few execution style shootings.

NAFTA is working just as Al Gore had envisioned it!

90%? Really 60 Minutes… I think the real number is more on par with Obama’s current (or future) approval rating. AKA much, much lower. I bet there will be some ‘news’ revelation such at that in the near future. How long does it take them to make up a story and fudge the data and then pass it off as truth?

Maybe NBC will do a follow up ‘go green’ peace with MSNBC on how to can give up your liberty and personal security and recycle you pesky, useless gun into some hybrid car that does not even get MPG as good as some small four banger engines do! Then, some criminal can carjack you and rape your girlfriend or wife in front of you and you won’t have a tool to stop it from happening (or at least one tool that would greatly HELP in the stopping part) since you are green now! But under no circumstance should you violate the civil rights of the rapist-carjacking attacker and fight back. Its not eco friendly!

I like guns in the hands of regular, honest citizens. Especially when they know how to use them. Makes the streets safer and frees up energy to do productive work and not having to worry that some punk bully criminal is going to make trouble and hurt innocent people and not get challenged.

Pre 1960s there were 3 cops who could respond to ever one violence crime. This was the case for just about every (150k people plus) sizable USA city.

Now there are up to 16 violent crimes for just every one cop on duty.

So when many citizens are armed there is a DRASTIC reduction in violent crime in that area (up to 56%) and the cops on duty get a workload that they can effectually manage. Its just data…

Even if you hate guns but like math and logic you’d be for more guns in the hands of honest citizens with that fact sheet in front of you!

Excellent! So true, when law-abiding citizens have had enough & begin to arm themselves, the lawless take note! It’s all they understand, they can’t be reasoned with.

It is simple really…MORE GUNS = LESS CRIME. The stats prove this ove the years, but libs don’t “feel” right with this & fight the truth with their emotions.

Great. Now all we need is to get ammunition prices back under control. I just bought 1000 rounds of .223 and spent $400 after shipping.

One night about 10 years ago, while living in an apartment complex, a “neighbor” of mine decided he was going to break in through spare bedroom window at 3 in the morning. I had heard him working the door, and had time to creep down the hall to stand in the doorway watching him. As soon as he got the window broken out and was halfway through, I chambered a round into my 12 gauge shotgun. For a few seconds, all I could see of him was eyes and teeth, and then he was gone. *POOF*.

I highly doubt he would have turned tail and ran if I had been standing there with a cell phone trying to get through to the po po!

All Americans have a right to bear arms. This is a fundamental right in order to have a free society.

making it hard for law abiding citizens to have guns is stupid. it is not the law abiding people we should be controlling but the criminals. when criminals know that people can protect themselves as the cowards that they are they will not confront the person.

KQ, your are right, but that does’nt matter. Libs don’t like guns, period. What’s even better is that crap like healthcare is a “right”, & should be provided by the gov’t. So by that logic, th gov’t should be providing the law abiding public with guns & ammo. Some “rights” are more important than others. Real or imagined.
