So, to have a school janitor have a kid working under him to mop the floors, maybe paint a wall or two, so he could be doing the more difficult stuff, would be a bad thing in your eyes? It used to be called an apprentice. It’s how I started my career.

Bull. I think every reasonable able biodied person receiving governemnt benmefits like welfare should be in a JOB, earning that money and gaining training and experience. Worked during the Depression, it would work now. And trust me, your local scholl janitor is not a genius, probably has an eight grade education from Mexico and speaks little English. At least that’s how it is here in Texas. Maintenence people are a whole different story.

As usual Ollie, you are expressing an opinion without knowing all the facts. the majority of these “jobs” are volunteer training positions with no pay for the kids. How many teens do you know who will take a non-paid position whether it is good training or not?

This is just another useless program, a waste of money, and it will do nothing to help the younger folks needing a full time job. Typical Obummer foolishness.

Where does it say that they are going to let go of any experienced people to make way for part time, temporary summer workers?

Keeping with the big government mentality, various federal agencies are creating thousands of positions to meet the goals set by a new Obama initiative to find jobs for “low-income and disconnected youth.”

Oblivious is just showing her racism by not wanting young, ethnic minorities to have jobs!

Obama’s Labor Secretary, former California Congresswoman Hilda Solis, hinted that minorities will be heavily targeted, pointing out that “minority youth have had an especially difficult time funding summer employment.” To back this up Solis offered the following statistics; the unemployment rate for African-American youth last summer was 31% and for Latinos it was 20%. That means 900,000 African-American youth and 820,000 Latino youth didn’t work, according to the secretary’s figures.

If it were not an election year, there would not be the big effort on the apprenticeships. Now that barry has come up with the idea of having underprivileged youths work with others it’s a great idea. Gingrich did it and he was a damn racist for suggesting it.

I wonder what the guidelines for being in the program will be? Just ask for it and you are counted as having one of the “jobs” What are those who are doing the “hiring” going to be expected to put up with and let go by? Just asking is all.

Yes, these jobs are just training positions before moving into a genuine paid position with the federal government. Stand around, do nothing, get paid for it. And great benefits!

The qualification will be if you have a taxpayer provided cellphone.

So far three federal agencies have committed to create a combined 19,424 jobs for the low-income, disconnected minority youth. The Department of the Interior, which manages the country’s national parks, will lead the way with 12,000 positions in various wildlife refuges, environmental restoration projects and tribal lands.

How about creating a pro business regulatory and tax environment to encourage the PRIVATE sector to hire these unfortunate youths. No, a prog ever does that when the government is their answer to everything.

I hope I did this right. If not the article can be found at NewsBusters.com. The Obummers job program for youths is like most of his policies, all smoke and mirrors with on real benefit for anyone.

Obama to launch summer-jobs initiative

President Obama on Thursday will unveil a summer-jobs initiative that the White House says is already on track to create 180,000 “work opportunities” in the private sector in 2012.

That is the number of opportunities, which includes mentoring and unpaid internships, that companies have told the administration they are willing to create. Some 70,000 jobs are paid, the White House says.

The initiative was hatched after Congress failed to approve a $1.5 billion summer-jobs fund that President Obama had been seeking as part of the American Jobs Act.

“Today’s announcement is the latest in a series of executive actions the Obama administration is taking to strengthen the economy and move the country forward because we can’t wait for Congress to act,” a White House statement reads.

In 60 days, the administration plans to create a jobs bank in order to facilitate more hiring of youth for summer jobs.

If that “jobs bank” (which by the way probably duplicates dozens which already exist) works like Cash for Clunkers, school will be in session again in August and September before anyone is placed.

The main point though, is that the AP wouldn’t tell readers that about 60% of these “jobs” aren’t jobs at all (one must get paid to be classified as holding a job and being employed, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics spokesperson). Even Wasson at the The Hill chose to obfuscate a bit by only concentrating on the number of “paid” positions. I doubt that either the AP or Wasson would be so considerate to a Republican or conservative president.
