Where’s Waldobama?

Obama visited Berlin in better times. (Translation: When it was all about him)

The fall of the Berlin Wall is one of the most celebrated and iconic events of the late 20th Century. So where’s Barack Obama when the rest of the world is marking the 20th anniversary of the fall?

You may recall that before he was elected president, Obama wanted to speak in front of the Wall’s historic Brandenburg Gate. Back then, it was all about Him, not some anniversary party and he wanted to be seen in a historic context. Sadly, his request was denied by German authorities. So candidate Obama had to settle for speaking in front of the Victory Column during his Hope and Change Express World Tour 2008.

Could that be part of the reason why Obama is snubbing Berlin? Who knows?

It’s certainly not because he doesn’t like to travel. “In his first year in office,” Columnist Rich Lowry notes, “Barack Obama has visited more foreign countries than any other president. He’s touched ground in 16 countries, easily outpacing Bill Clinton (three) and George W. Bush (eleven).”

Remember, this is the same president who jetted over to Denmark for ONE HOUR to pitch Chicago for the Olympics. So why miss this historic occasion? Is the health care crisis or the state of climate change really so dire that The One can’t take a day to celebrate the triumph of liberty over tyranny? Can’t he delegate something to Joe Biden?

“His schedule is reportedly too crowded,” Lowry explains.

John F. Kennedy famously told Berliners, ‘Ich bin ein Berliner.’ On the 20th anniversary of the last century’s most stirring triumph of freedom, Obama is telling them, “Ich bin beschäftigt.” That is, “I’m busy.”

All of which begs the question: Where is Obama today anyway? Let us know if you find out what was more important than marking the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Must be a beer summit somewhere. Or a golf course that demanded his undivided attention.

Obama would say “Ich bin ein Gott.”

Word on the street has it that he could not think up an appropriate apology for the US breaking the wall and everything

I fear obama would rather celebrate tyranny over liberty.
