“Showtime on Friday passed on Tim Robbins’ well-regarded pharmaceutical-drama pilot ‘Possible Side Effects.’”

That’s how Reuters announced the death of Robbins’ latest project.

The series was to be written and directed by Oscar winner Robbins. He had already signed top talent including Ellen Burstyn. Insiders say the pilot tested well and was considered a sure thing for Showtime’s schedule.

Of course, liberal conspiracy theorists immediately concluded that the project was killed because of its subject matter. “Possible Side Effects” takes a caustic look at the pharmaceutical drug industry.

“Like several other pilots rejected by Showtime, ‘Side Effects’ might be shopped elsewhere,” Reuters said.

Maybe Robbins should take it over to Current TV. Al Gore’s network is pretty desperate. They’ll run damn near anything.
