Hollywood hypocrisy: Why would anyone trust celebrities for financial advice?

September 23, 2009, 2:45 pm · 11 comments

Will Ferrell and a gaggle of other Hollywood stars are now appearing in a MoveOn.org video that knocks executives of medical insurance companies.

Let’s just set aside the fact that it’s even less funny than Ferrell’s last couple movies and proceed to more important issues. LIke is it fair and well-researched? Is it even good advice? Or is it just more half-baked Hollywood hypocrisy?

The clips are actually just a smoothly-produced bit of propaganda for government-run healthcare. And modicum of research reveals that the healthcare industry has extremely thin profit margins (ranked 86th) and that medical insurance executives aren’t paid any higher than, let’s say, entertainment executives and far less than comedians who think they’re economic experts.

But what damaged part of the American psyche makes us believe celebrities, especially when it comes to financial and economic matters? Why would we want to believe, for instance, a guy who made millions by starring in Land of the Lost. A movie, by the way, that cost $200 million to make and made, like, forty cents at the box office. (How many people could that piece of cinematic garbage have insured?)

Why should we value the opinion of people who are paid millions of dollars and who feel the need to increase taxes on their biggest fans–the middle class?

Here’s a better solution: If all the Hollywood Obama backers and the celebrities who star in these MoveOn.org flicks are flush with cash, comps, bonuses and gift baskets and feel they could do a better job at providing medical insurance, why don’t they pool their money together, create a venture capital pool, and create a new medical insurance provider?

But at least they lie (sound familiar?) when they say 80% of the people support the public option.

So this is what our tax payer dollars over at MoveOn.org are producing for us? Shammy propoganda videos meant to persuade the “20%” (haha) of Americans who aren’t ready to put 20% of the economy into the hands of the government.

Could it be that California’s economy was run into the ground by the inane political leadership of the bohemians in Hollywood?

I often wonder …

So they take a 15 second bit and expand it to almost 2 1/2 minutes of total boredom.

Maybe Will was on the call from the NEA asking for help in pushing the president’s agenda?

So, are these the same idiots in the “I pledge” video, or is this a totally different batch of idiots.

Hey, since they paid the counter-protesters for Obamacare about $10 bucks an hour…how much did they pay these bozos?

According to boxofficemojo.com, Land Of The Lost production budget was $100 mil (down from $125 million after Universal’s $160 mill Evan Almighty tanked. That’s right…$160 million!)

God know how much the carpet bombing promotional blitz cost (probably well north of 75 Million), and the world wide take was only 62 million.

These are the economic geniuses that want to run 1/6 of the US economy??

All the libs keep harping is on is providing competition for the Health Care Industry. They say it will lower costs, keep the companies honest, and provide better service. Yet, when the conservatives want to provide vouchers for those students stuck in awful urban schools to keep the NEA honest, provide better service and lower costs, we are shot down. What are the school unions afraid of, a little competition?

According to Forbes, Will I Ever Be Funny Ferrell makes $20M per movie. Why don’t they tax the piss out of these ass clowns? Even if he made $1M for his bad movies, I wouldn’t mind. Give the difference back if you care that much.

Of course the left sounds good to hollyweird. Just look at their lifestyles. Do a lot of drugs? No problem. Break the law? Don’t worry, you’re above it. Marry and divorce like it’s going out of style (unlike Michelle O’s clothes) and have illegitimate children? Who cares.

Obama’s speech to school children should have pointed out his hollywood backing as an example. “These guys didn’t go to college, make more than your mommy and daddy ever will, and support me.”

Instead of taxing soft drinks, twinkies and anthing else that is “bad” for us, we should “slap” on a Hollywood Tax of $1 per movie ticket. Some of the garbage on the big screen is more dangerous than junk food.
