I went to hell and have brought it back with me. “…Anthony Esolen argues that our government has failed to admit that its own selfishness is the root of many societal problems it has attempted to address.” Government of the gubbermint, by the gubbermint and for the gubbermint…

Really? Forbid dropouts?
So, they just won’t show up for school, just like they are doing now.
Obama has the perfect solution for everything.

I heard one Libertarian suggest that we drop all mandatory education for kids over 16, on the theory that all they’re doing is taking up space and diverting resources from those who would benefit from them. And by extension, have school available for anyone who wants it, until they earn a diploma. In other words, let a 16 year old drop out without penalty but let him come back at 22 if he wants, when (if) he realizes he needs the education.

I’m not sure I’d entirely agree, but by God it couldn’t be a much worse outcome than what we’re getting.

Just another reason that the Libertarian Party is the party of free choice. The use of force to make someone who isn’t hurting anyone do something they don’t want to do is immoral.

Congratulations to the Democrat party!! Yet another testimonial to your greatness. Still #1 in ruining the lives of minorities and inner-city youths.

That is one of the best articles on the failure of liberalism I have ever read. It has taken 50 years, ever since LBJ’s “war on poverty” got started, to get into the mess we are in. The problem is it always takes twice as long and costs ten times as much to fix such monumemtal fuck-ups, which the war on poverty surely is.

Using that formula, I guess I’m not going to see much of the recovery.
