Obama Plays Race Card, Calls on Churches to Support Campaign. “Imagine if Paul campaign launched ‘Whites for Ron Paul?’” What happened to that separation of church and state liberals scream about all the time? Oh, sorry we forgot, rules only apply to conservatives.

Why is that? What would be the point of it?

Can you name any challenges that white Americans face, that aren’t just as big (or bigger) a challenge for black Americans?

(NOTE: “We don’t like seeing white privilege taken away from us” doesn’t count as a legitimate challenge.) ;)

**************
What “double standards”?

Why would any honest American have a gripe about a minority group getting together (in the case of black Americans, the church has traditionally been the center of the community) and supporting the candidate who’s most sensitive to their particular concerns?

Sounds to me as if you have a problem with black Americans working together for a common cause.

Fail.

No problems at all so long as every house of worship – regardless of their members’ ethnicity – has the same respect accorded them. The problem with lefties like you is that you’ve yet to enjoy color blindness.

I’ve seen the letter from the IRS my pastor received which threatened to revoke our church’s 501c3 status because a member was granted permission to hand out guides detailing presidential, congressional and state candidates’ positions on issues social and economic. An offended party reported the church to Irwin R. Shyster because they felt the guides were doing just that: “guiding” voters toward whom they should vote for. All they did was highlight where candidates stood on issues… issues important to the 1,500+ members of our shared faith community comprised of Americans of Caucasian, African, Hispanic and First Nations descent.

If the guide was, in fact, encouraging people toward whom its authors thought our members should vote for, what’s diff between that and what the Divider-In-Chief is doing? Why is it alright for one religious group to politically engage and not the other?

Answer: double standards.

We’re never going to unite until we’ve done so under the issue of character content, not skin color.

And in what way does his message show disrespect to Americans who aren’t black? When a Republican candidate encourages Christians to work together for his election, does that show disrespect to Jews? Of course not.

Did Obama propose that members hand out voting guides in church? I don’t recall him doing that in the video. If he did, he was wrong to do so. But there’s a big difference between encouraging one’s friends at church to work together on a political campaign, and encouraging clergymen or members of the congregation to use church services as campaign meetings. Just as there’s a difference between a public school student praying to himself before a test, and a teacher asking the whole class to pray together.

Then I’d suggest that you stop hunting relentlessly for excuses to call Obama racist.

I’m sorry, Olivia, we evil Tea-Partiers just assumed that having jobs would be best for ALL Americans, regardless of race. Obviously, just like all the other left wing goons, you would prefer that Blacks just shut up and get back on the Democrat Party Plantation.

Well, gosh, Jayhawk, what legislation do YOU propose that Obama (he doesn’t go by the name “Barry,” Mr. Well Informed) support or pass, in order to ensure that this situation be corrected?

Are you saying that you support affirmative action? Because, if you’re not, why are you even jumping into a discussion about the unique needs and concerns of the black community?

What I’m hearing from you is, “I’m a white right wing male, and I know better than you do what’s best for you.” Sorry, Jayhawk, but black Americans were forced to listen to that kind of mentality for 200+ years, and all it got them was further oppression, poverty and marginalization. Ever stop to think that they might have good reason to put more trust in their own community leaders, or a president who knows a thing or two about black communities and their needs, instead of a we-know-what’s-best-for-you angry white reactionary?

Someone within the black clergy needs to ask ol barry this question. What have you done for us and why should we support you? Black unemployment is over 25%. The number comes from the BOLS. Yet, there will be many who will vote solely based on the man’s skin color. By doing this it flies right in the face of Dr. King’s philosophy, dream and legacy.

And you feel that you’re a better judge than black community leaders of what Obama has done for the black community, because…….? ;)

You see, that’s where you far righters always end up exposing your real sentiments. You have an unfortunate tendency to assume that YOU know what’s best for black Americans, and that they should just let you direct them. That mentality might be popular with the (overwhelmingly white) Tea Party movement, but it doesn’t tend to sit well with minority groups. It didn’t sit well with them in 1862, either—-or during the Jim Crow era.

*********************
Obama is ensuring affordable health care for millions who wouldn’t otherwise be able to get it.
He’s also managed to take an economic collapse that was threatening to go into freefall, and turn it around.
As community organizer before he went to law school, Obama helped a lot of minority people register to vote. Oh, wait, you righties don’t consider that to be a good thing, do you? Sorry. ;)
As an attorney, Obama specialized in civil rights cases. Oops—-another action that you righties would be opposed too. Sorry again. ;)
As president, Obama took steps to get us out of a hemorrhaging quagmire that Bush & Co. started, but apparently didn’t know how to stop.
Obama also managed to see that Bin Laden was no longer a threat to us, or anyone else. Remember that guy? The one that Bush vowed to get, and then decided he wasn’t all that worried about him after all?
Obama has also served as a great role model to today’s youth. He’s shown black kids that it really is possible to achieve great things by working hard, no matter what race you are. And, as a caring and responsible husband and parent, he’s shown kids of all races that even a kid from a broken home can get beyond painful experiences, and create his own domestic happiness as an adult.
In short, there are a great many contributions that Obama has made to society, even if Rush Limbaugh doesn’t like to admit it.

Now, suppose YOU tell ME why you don’t believe there are any honest and productive black leaders in the U.S. today. Because that’s what you’re implying. (HINT: Not every black American puts a lot of stock in Jackson and/or Sharpton.) Then maybe you can explain why you think black Americans should listen to a bunch of white reactionaries, instead of making their own political decisions.

There are blacks who should be considered leaders, like Thomas Sowell, Walter E Williams, Alan West, Herman Cain, Robert Johnson, Clarence Thomas, Oprah, JC Watts, Alan Page, Michael Williams, & David Webb, just off the top of my head. ********************
Well, first of all, it’s “African AMERICANS for Obama.” And, second, your trite response still doesn’t explain why you think African Americans would consider skin color only, when deciding which candidate to support.

Go ahead. Explain it to me. This ought to be very interesting.
********************
2. How about less regulation and lower taxes? Worked for JFK?
********************
The poor and unemployed (presumably the ones you righties are pretending to care about here) don’t have enough of an income to pay taxes as it is. Now, suppose you tell me how you KNOW that decreasing or eliminating government regulation will automatically result in CEOs and company owners (1) expanding the company payroll (whether or not they actually need more employees), and (2) choosing unemployed black applicants for these new positions.
***********************
3. Look at most of the black leaders they speak for themselves. They want Obama because it’s good for them, not their people. Evidenced by the aforementioned horrendous black employment rates.
***********************
So what you’re saying is that all black community leaders are selfish and unscrupulous? And that the black community is too dumb to realize it, and needs YOUR advice as to what’s best for them?

Sounds EXACTLY what southern racists have been saying about black Americans for the past 150 years. Except that, up until the last 30 years or so, they were honest enough to admit to their bigotry.
***********************
As long as you keep playing the race card you’re no solution to the problem Olivia and no better than ‘leaders’ like Sharpton, Jackson, Wright, Obama, Wrangell et al.
*******************
Now, that’s funny. “Playing the race card,” my boy, is one of those trendy politically manufactured terms that the right loves to throw around for effect. In fact, it means nothing more than “bringing up the issue of racism when I don’t want to talk about it.” And, since it was a far righter who brought it up on this thread, you’re going to have to look farther than me if you want to assign blame. ;)

Don’t you find it fascinating that many of us are declining to respond to her (the TD MO folks) and have actually TOLD her we will not respond to her, so she keeps coming up with ever more bizarre comments to try and entice us back into crazytown? I mean, what part of “we will not pay you any attention because you are nuts” is so hard to understand?

No, only those who talk like one. There are many Americans to the right of me who are decent, logical and well informed people. The problem is, too often they’re drowned out by said knuckle draggers.

You can blame right wing propaganda outlets for that. They’ve managed to convince their fans that ill-informed tirades are just as valid, and deserve just as much respect, as carefully thought out opinions by people who have studied the issues and used their brains.

As one journalist (Charles Pierce) put it: “Dress it up and the Gut is ‘common sense,’ which rarely is common and even more rarely makes sense…..
“The First Great Premise: Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings, or otherwise moves units.
“…the Second Great Premise: Anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough.
“…the Third Great Premise, respect for the effort required to develop and promulgate nonsense somehow bleeds into an respect that validates the nonsense itself.”

The people who’ve bought into this “logic” are the people who are currently making the most noise on the right. Whether or not you identify with them, they’re there, and the GOP is doing its best to placate them.

*********************
Sure, but only if you CHOOSE to be sensitive about it. Obviously, anyone who throws the word “c*nt” into a post addressed to a woman isn’t much in the sensitivity department. And, by the way, I addressed you as “my boy,” not “boy.” Small but significant difference.
In any case, you’re obviously not a member of a minority group, or at least you don’t self-identify as one. That much is obvious, given your addiction to repeating unpleasant stereotypes about black Americans. So let’s can the fake indignation and get on with the discussion, shall we?
*********************************
1. Africans or African Americans is splitting c*nt hairs and you know you gave a piss poor answer.
*********************
Wrong. It’s a matter of nationality. You might not realize this, but African Americans are Americans, just as you are. That’s an important factor in any discussion about their current economic challenges.
**************************
2. If you had a clue you would know lowering taxes worked for Reagan and JFK, so what more proof do you need?
*************************
That’s not “proof,” nor is it true that tax cuts “worked” as well as you claim.

Kennedy’s administration was fifty years ago, before the Civil Rights Act, when black Americans were still lagging far behind white Americans in terms of income—-and when many business owners were working to keep it that way. Let’s stick with our own era, okay?

Reagan’s tax cuts resulted in a tripling of our deficit—the very deficit that you righties are now wringing your hands over. Sure, his tax cuts made him a hero to you guys, but they also set the stage for economic problems down the road. Including an unemployment rate of 10.8% in 1983. (I guess you didn’t hear, either, that Reagan ended up raising taxes 11 times during his administration.)

Let’s not forget, either, that the bulk of American manufacturing jobs were still in the U.S. during the Reagan administration, whereas millions of those jobs have been outsourced since then. Today, merchandise with a “Made in USA” sticker or tag is the exception, rather than the general rule.

I notice that you didn’t mention Bush’s even deeper tax cuts, and the deep recession that followed. You also forgot to mention that, since Bush’s tax cuts, the nation’s wealthiest have gotten richer quicker, whereas the average Joe has fallen behind, in terms of purchasing power. I don’t recall any bonanza of opportunities for black Americans since then, either.

So, no matter what your favorite pundits on FAUX News are saying, “But it seems to have worked for Kennedy and Reagan” doesn’t automatically translate into “Cutting taxes is a magical way of fixing the problem of high unemployment for black Americans.”
*************************
3. Not all black leaders, just the sleezebags I mentioned, which are about the only ones everyone listens to.
**************************
And you know for sure that all black Americans listen ONLY to Sharpton, Jackson &c., because……?

Sounds like yet another negative stereotype to me. You just keep on regurgitating those stereotypes, don’t you?—taking time out only to affect indignation at being addressed as “my boy.”
************************
4. Obama brought up the race card, perhaps you should contact him.
You continue playing th race card so talk to yourself.
**************************
As I pointed out earlier, “playing the race card” is merely a euphemism for “bringing up the topic of race when I don’t want to talk about it.” Obama chose to speak directly to the black community, just as Newt Gingrich chose to speak directly to the Hispanic community when he created a campaign website in Spanish for them. Both very common tactics in political campaigns. Yet you have nothing to say about Gingrich’s efforts, but can’t resist whining that Obama is somehow offending you by talking to black Americans about the unique challenges they face.
*************************
What makes you think I’m a far righter?
*************************
My boy, if it quacks, swims and waddles like a duck, it’s obviously a duck. Oh, sure, you can try to argue with me that you’re really a duck billed platypus, but those white feathers give you away every time. ;)
*************************
You don’t really know jack about me.
*************************
Not true. You’re not as good at concealing your motives and perceptions as you think you are. Your conformity to popular right wing ideology sticks out all over your posts, just as your vulgarisms and prejudices do.

This is actually an opinion piece, not a report. The author is Reed Garfield, a conservative economist, who tells you exactly what he wants you to conclude from his argument. Look at the last paragraph.

Interestingly, too, he fails to mention the Reagan era tax hikes, focusing exclusively on the tax cuts. He also downplays the significance of the huge deficit that Reagan created. (Of course, since this was written in 1997, he didn’t have to account for the economy crashing just 11 years later.)

Actually, I have never met a liberal who could explain their ideas, perido. They do a lot of rehashed quotes, and point to what they feel is wrong (everything) but no ideas, no solutions, no REASON why they supposedly believe the drivel they quote as gospel truth. And when you ask them about things that are inconvenient, they have never heard that story, or quote, or seen that chart. They live in a very circumscibed bubble.
