It’s (the) bush’s fault: gov’t spent $205,075 to “translocate” one $16 shrub from path of Stimulus project. One of those “shovel-ready” jobs the Fertilizer-Head-In-Chief was always blathering about. In this instance, Obama can say it’s bush’s fault, and for once he’d be right.

Do NOT fear just as soon as one of the stimulus projects is successful 0bama will be right there to accept the blam…er credit for it. Until then, all Bush’s, republican congress, or Israel’s fault.

Once again it is proven that there is no amount of money that is too much to spend on a stupid idea.

Look at it from the government’s point of view. It is both a stimulus project AND a green project, so naturally it is going to be more expensive than moving a normal shrub. And it means the jobs created or saved by the project can be counted twice. More good “investing” in our future, see?

Sounds like something you would expect in a comedy film like “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, Specifically the Knights who say Ni.
From the script…
“First you must find… another shrubbery! (dramatic chord) Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here, beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle.!”

What bothers me most about this story is that it doesn’t surprise me in the least. Typical government operation. And they want to run businesses?

205 Grand for some landscaping? The government needs to start driving to the Home Depot parking lot, that’s all I’m saying.

I just added these details in over at the Wikipedia entry on the plant, which dutifully recorded the salvation of this rare example.

And it didn’t take long for the wiki-weenies to pounce, from the page history;
“(Undid revision 487180414 by 75.209.244.189 (talk) Price of project utterly irrelevant; transplantation somewhat relevant, as it relates to plant’s historic range, so left in.) (undo)”
That’s why we always, always (not) trust ‘em. And @DR, it took me a sec, but that’s pretty good.
