We’re going to give Levi Johnston the benefit of the doubt and assume that neither he nor his advisors are familiar with the demographics of Playgirl magazine readers. They undoubtedly thought, “Ahhh, Playgirl. Lots of women readers.”
That would be an incorrect assumption.
Posing nude for Playgirl is next for the 19-year-old father of Sarah Palin’s grandchild. Johnston’s attorney, Rex Butler, said Wednesday that a formal agreement has not been reached with the online magazine but adds it’s a “foregone conclusion” it will happen…
To get ready for his close-up, Johnston “is training three hours a day, six nights a week at an Anchorage gym with a local body builder, Marvin Jones, a former Mr. Alaska competitor.
When was the last time you saw a woman reading Playgirl magazine? Never?
Wikipedia says,
Though the magazine is marketed to heterosexual women, Playgirl’s then-editor-in-chief Michele Zipp said in 2003, “The gay readership is about 30%.” She went on to add, “It’s ‘Entertainment for Women’ because there’s no other magazine out there that caters to women in the way we do, but we love our gay readers, as well.” Also, in 2003, Mark Graff, President of Trans Digital Media, the brand management firm for Playgirl TV, stated that 50% of Playgirl’s readership are gay males.
Fact is, the publication doesn’t really like to discuss the fact that most of its readers are gay men. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. (Personal note: IHateTheMedia.com’s editor has a friend who was once a Playgirl centerfold. He also thought it was a women’s publication and was shocked to find out how much fan mail he got from gay men).
Enjoy the photo shoot, Levi. And just be aware that your frank and beans are about to be ogled by a bunch of guys.

Only difference is that Playboy is marketed to heterosexual men (possible that lesbians pick it up, however the main market is heterosexual men). The ones being catered to are the ones that truly pick it up. Everyone knows it.
Whereas Playgirl even though it was FIRST intended to be for heterosexual women as a result of feminism in the 70’s and it “kind of” continued to be marketed to straight women, gay men have taken over the “readership” for this “publication” (now strictly online as the magazine is no longer going to be published). Anything pornographic in nature inevitably ends up at the hands of men, straight or gay, because women in general are not that inclined towards pornography as men are. I am sure there is a market for lesbian porn, however again in general terms women straight or lesbian do not run towards porn with as much zeal as men do (gay or straight).
The people who run Playgirl know this (they may not want to admit it because then they will have to admit that the feminist agenda failed miserably… and it did), women in general who know that such a thing as Playgirl exists, know this and even Hugh Heffner joked about it that it is not for women (anymore?) but for gay men.
EVERYONE with half a brain and knowledge of Playgirl knows this magazine is truly marketed to and “read” by gay men. That more than half of the “male models” are gay and many are gay porn actors. Gay men assume most of these male models are gay anyway, because chances are that they are. If you take the time you can find most of the male models are porn people and in most cases gay porn.
So it is not a stretch to assume that Johnston is probably trying to come out of some kind of closet. If anything if he is truly an idiot and he doesn’t know, it is incredible that is managers and lawyers do not know either. It is an idiot circus all around. This is a late night joke ready made. If he has a brain and took time to investigate Playgirl’s demographic (or his people did) he should back out unless he doesn’t mind the love mail and naked pics of countless men that he is about to receive. In that case again one can assume that he is trying to tell the world something.
Is this guy forgetting he still is a father of a young kid that will be looking at his behavior in the future? Probably!
