Lou Dobbs lobs grenade, walks out on CNN contract

November 12, 2009, 6:52 am · 13 comments

Controversial CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, whose CNN contract runs through 2011, unexpectedly announced his “retirement” – effective immediately – on his Wednesday show.

Over the past six months, it’s become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us.

And some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving, as well as to contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day. And to continue to do so in the most direct and honest language possible.

“Going beyond my role here at CNN”. Translation: I’m tired of serving as a punching bag for illegal alien rights groups with no support from CNN’s management.

What’s next for Dobbs? A new show on Fox? A political career? Working the red carpet at next year’s Latin Grammy Awards?

Stay tuned.

Fox News should dump Shep and hire Lou Dobbs. The primetime linep should be 1-Glenn Beck, 2-Lou Dobbs, 3-Sean Hannity. Where would O’Reilly go? I really don’t care. - Admin’s thoughts are not necessarily those of the Editor.

O’Reilly loves O’Reilly. Period. That’s all he has on his mind. Well, that, and Dick Morris. And Dick Morris loves Dick Morris. Period. Well, that and Bill O’Reilly. The two together on his show, which is too often, is just way too much to take. I would not be surprised to see the two of them making out sometime.

I get it, people either love O’Reilly or hate him, but he ain’t going anywhere. He is on top of the cablenews ratings heap, & he has been for a very long time. He will have to implode on air, leave over a contract dispute, or retire. He seems to be commited to TV after leaving his radio gig.

Orielly has lost his mind. he has no idea where he stands on anything. The liberal Massachusetts upbringing is starting to seep into his soft brain!

I agree dobs should be where shep is. he is out of place, especially juxtaposed to Skinner, who is all class, professional, and a true conservative(I grew up with her-her dad served in GHWB’s admin).

Could be. Or perhaps he might do what Sarah Palin is doing, going around the country, speaking, backing candidates. His number one issue, and the issue that likely separated him from CNN, is illegal immigration. He could be a powerful force fighting against what could be next year’s big issue.

Does anyone else think he would do better then Chris Matthews did?

Damn CNN. Luckily they did not take it down from their own site, just Youtube and others. I’ve embeded the CNN version, with all it’s ads an inferior format.

It seems any more Fox News is the only Cable News cable that we can rely upon to not ask video sharing sites to take down their videos.

i hope dobbs is going to fox. i would hope he would get the 6 pm or 7 pm time slot. he speaks truth about the leaders of our gov. and businesses. the greed, outsourcing, illegal immigration, free trade.
he holds both parties accountable. he knows our gov. spends to much and waste even more. not what thewhitehouse wants to hear. cantbe critical or you are a racist or a rightwing nut.
watchout other news groups. how long before you say the wrong thing? please remember it up to you to hold the gov. accountable, not push an agenda. ITS WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY GREAT!!!!!!!!
