Such a case is not entirely without precedent. (Uh-oh, here comes Lawyer Bob again, everyone just groaned.) Briefly, there is established law which says that any restaurant advertising food to some standard, including religious, must comply with that advertising, just as any other representation it makes. This has deep roots in the kosher marketplace, as you might expect. Just to share a tidbit, one of the famous/landmark cases, out of NYC, actually ended up a First Amendment case, because for a long time, city ordinances prescribed the preparation and conditions for food to be called kosher. One deli owner, who did his own koshering, was perfectly fine by rabbinical standards and had the certificate from a qualified neighborhood rabbi, but the =city= inspector came by and said he was only soaking meat in salt water for two hours instead of 2 1/2 or whatever it was (to get all the blood out) and that he was NOT selling “Kosher” meat. Well I’m sure we can all see the 1st Am implication there, and I believe it did go SC, and this was a church/state question I do think was resolved correctly.
All to the point, if McDonald’s says its McNuggets are kosher or halal or whatever, they dam well better be.

They are, the McNuggets are prepared in a different plant than the McRib, and are heated in the store in a different place, nuggets are deep fried I believe, ribs are microwaved.

Sorry but lawsuits like this are like ADA lawsuits. Basically some attorney wants to get a fat pay day. I fail to see why a lot of money needs to change hands in either case the first time. If the building makes itself ADA compliant or the restaurant makes it’s food Kosher or Halal that should be the end of it. Now, if they don’t change, then fine, at that point I don’t have a problem with some money changing hands.

I saw him perform in The Stone Pony bar in Asbury Park NJ about a year or so before he passed. He seemed fine. I’m not sure his illness was public knowledge at the time.

I saw him at a really cool venue in Milwaukee, the old Pabst Theater. Only time I ever saw him and it is odd that I really have no certainty when it was! I always liked his stuff but never bought any of it. He lived only a year or so after he was diagnosed. He did release a song about being gone before he died. A very funny and smart guy. Lots of really good lines, far too many to list. Among the stickers of them all, my current favorite went something like ‘If you won’t leave me I’ll find someone who will.’

There was a case in the 1970′s where a milkshake stand in NYC was selling really really low-cal milkshakes that tasted delicious. Chubby chicks flocked to the place to get their fix. It turned out that the shakes were NOT low-cal – in fact they were obscenely calorie-laden. If I remember correctly, the stand-owner got a very light punishment, and the statutes were later changed to prevent this kind of thing.
I don’t like much government intervention, but I have real issues with merchants messing with people’s FOOD. There was an article last week that HORSE MEAT was found in ground beef in the UK. Whoever did that should be flogged.

I was in town for the Long Beach Grand Prix way back in the late 70′s, eating lunch at McDonald’s. There was a guy there from Corporate, doing questionnaires. The final question was, “What would you like to see added to McDonald’s menu?” Of course, I said that I really like tacos.
Before writing down my answer, the young man looked me right in the eyes, “Sir, can you imagine what a McDonald’s taco would be like?”

Years ago, I was in San Antonio on business when they first came out, and the local McD’s used a local hot sauce instead of the goo they now serve. They were extremely good, but I’m sure that the corporate office put a stop to that.
I still like ‘em, but if I want Mexican food, I’ll go to a Mexican restaurant.

I’ll tell you, when I was in the Air Force I spent most of my enlistment in San Antonio, I never really liked Mexican food, or what used to pass for it at Taco Bell, but I fell in love with Tex-Mex! Now I scour the countryside trying to find good Tex-Mex. My favorite is fajitas, but nobody uses the correct meat (skirt steak) for it around here.

Love Tex-Mex.. was introduced via brisket fajitas with some extremely hot peppers, long ago. That’s when i decided to recalibrate my taste for even spicier stuff..
I sorely miss another fusion since I moved to CO. Maybe haven’t been looking hard enough, but there was a place, Chino Bandido, which is like no other (Chinese-Mexican)

When I showed up in Cleveland many years ago, to help finish the construction, and become the first operator of, Dinosaurus Rox, I asked the guys in the shop where the nearest Mexican restaurant was. They all agreed, there’s a Taco Bell down the road a bit. I had to train that crew before heading to San Antonio for our first show at the Alamo Dome.

Taco Bell, Taco Bueno, even Taco Cabana are not really Mexican food or even Tex Mex, tho TC comes closer. REAL Texmex is only served at little mom and pop, hole in the wall places that no one has ever heard of. Generally, the smaller and more unknown, the better. As a child, moving all over creation with the AF, we were frequently unable to get real Texmex, or Mexican. Fortunately, my Mom was an excellent cook and she made chili con carne, enchiladas, 2 varieties of crispy tacos. It was awesome. When we visited my Grandmother in San Antonio, my great aunt always made a huge Mexican dinner for us all. Then my mom would stock up on very thin corn tortillas from the Sanitary Tortilla Factory, and bottles of Gebhart’s chili powder, so we had it for the year. The chili recipe card I made when I was 10 has a note “always use Gebhart’s chili powder.”

McDonalds messed up by catering to muslims to begin with. Muslims should establish their own halal restaurants if they want to eat out. Whether it’s their dress, their worship, or what they eat muslims want everyone else to bow to their needs, but then, world dominion is a part of their theocratic religion.

Yeah, but that’s the only point I was really making, is that McD did this voluntarily, represented to the world that some part of their menu adhered to some standard, and they failed to live up to that representation.
Yeah, it’s stupid it would be a huge lawsuit, but McD knows better than anyone that that’s the environment they do business in these days. And it doesn’t matter if they say it’s halal or kosher or vegetarian or fat-free or gluten-free or broccoli free. They’re a business and they make these representations with the specific intent of attracting a certain clientele. They have a duty to the clientele to provide what they promise, and they are legally liable if they don’t. I should say it’s the amounts involved that are going to be ridiculous, rather than the matter itself.

I don’t have a problem with this suit. McDonald’s made a claim about their food, then lied about it and got caught. Oh well. I personally would never have tried to make a fast food restaurant Halal to begin with, but that was their choice. They got busted and deserve what they got/

He doesn’t approve of ANY corporation, which is why he spends his time mooching off his parents, who clearly can’t afford to take care of him. If he is truly 26 years old, he should be out supporting himself, even if not at the level he would prefer. There are people in San Antonio a decade younger than him with kids and THEY work. He needs to shut the hell up, grow up. and support himself. I promise he could get a job if his parents tossed him out on his ass.

I prefer other restaurants to McDonald’s but I have eaten there in a pinch. And I like the apples. When I was working home health and eating lunch while driving I ate a lot of the chicken strips with the fruit salad on the side.

What Gutfeld has said, & he says it in the clip I linked, was the McDonald’s has done more to help feed people cheaply then anyone else in human history. Those who hate McD’s because they are supposed to seem to miss that point, & they are usualy not worth the time. crowley bitching about them being a greedy corporation is redundent, they are what they are. The only legit complaint I’ve heard about them came from Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, who said he did’nt like the quality of the beef they use. Judging the product rather then the ideals of corporate food chains seems out of reach to leftists.

Yeah, and that’s his happy face. He belonged to my girlfriends aunt, she bought him when she was about 84 or 85. She knew it was not a smart thing, but it made her happy. We promised her he would have a good home since no one else would take him.
She died happy, knowing some one would love and care for him.

He is a toy poodle, about 3 years old.
I know he is a TOY poodle, because whenever I tell him Lassie would do that he looks at me disdainfully, and says “Lassie was a WORKING breed, I’m a PLAYING breed.”

Got a Shih Tzu, Riley, that is a little sh!t, & she can be a handful. Great disposition, & very loveable. We got after we put down our 13 year old Lhasa Apso named Sadie, who had diabetis the last 4 years. 2 insulin shots a day, at feeding time. In the morning & in the evening. She would let us know when it was time, & then after the first 3 years, her health went south fairly quickly, & we had to put her down. That was a sad day, & I still carry 1 of her tags with me with my keys. I love the new doggie, who is 2, but I still miss the old girl. Beautiful dog.

I used to per sit for a great Akita. Parents were nuts, but the dog was great! Very friendly, and well behaved, always ready to play. I have lost a number of dogs over the years, but I think I miss the last the most. An adopted Shelty, smart as a whip and devoted to the family. She used to herd the kids by nipping at their heels if they dawdled! She lived to 15, then very suddenly got sick and was getting worse, no matter what we did. We finally had to have her put down. It was awful. My son doesn’t even like to see pictures of shelties who look like her because its too painful.

With the exception of 1 chow, we had nothing but Akita’s when I was growing up.
We were showing them when the only place you COULD show them was the Royal Akita Club, because they were not yet recognized in America.

The AKC, as they often do, took the original Akita and bastardized it. I had a Japanese Akita, the best dog I ever had. I haven’t had a dog since he died, over 15 years ago.

The couple I petsat for was mixed Japanese and American. I always assumed the Akita was Japanese. They freaked out because he barked at people, but in his case, it was not aggression. He was just greeting everyone. He never so much as LOOKED aggressively at me or any of my kids. Of course, we never annoyed him, so maybe that was part of it. He LOVED having the kids come play!

Akitas have a wonderful personality, they love kids, always looking to protect them. If the Akita you know barked much, he was probably American. The Japanese bred the dogs for bear hunting, and they are naturally very quiet dogs. It took months to train mine to speak on command. He just didn’t want to do it.
Did the dog you sat for have a black, or dark, face? That’s a sure sign of American influence.

He only barked when we first arrived. The rest of the time he was silent. I don’t remember if his face was black. He may have been American, I don’t know. But he was a truly cool dog!
