Naked protestors display ire in John Boehner’s office. They were upset about “potential spending cuts in HIV programs.” By the time Capitol Police arrived, the naked men were gone and only three naked women were left to arrest. The men probably decamped for Barney Frank’s office hoping for a more sympathetic audience.

I have said this before & I’ll say it again. If there ever is a “cure” for HIV/AIDS, it will come from a greedy, profit driven corporation that will want to make zillions of dollars. It will never come from a gov’t agency like CDC. NEVER. These idiots are too damn dumb to grasp that, & the fact that HIV/AIDS is 100% preventable. Don’t engage in risky sexual behavior or using dirty needles is not exactly that hard to do, but then again, gays with HIV/AIDS have their asses kissed by those pols who love using other people’s money for their own political gain.

Well, luckily, if they keep this shit up, they’ll all be dead from HIV/AIDS long before anybody comes up with a cure.

I get your point, but no they won’t. Big Pharma has been too good at producing drugs that help stave off the effects of HIV/AIDS. Magic Johnson, anyone?

Who else likes the end result of “corporate greed”?

Congressman Boehner was out working on his tan and not available for comment. Remember, if taxes do go up and if spending is cut, the Republicans will get the blame, no matter who is actually responsible. Obama and the MSM are playing rope-a-dope with Boehner and his fellow clueless Republicans.

They are all wearing condoms in support of AIDS prevention even the females.

What is the left going to do when there are real changes in programs and spending made and the freaks have already used up the extreme strategies?

What was it the left used to say about the TEA party?

typical left zelots… all for one and one for all until the cops come, then its every MAN for themselves.

and wasn’t it the REPUBLICANS, namely George Bush, who gave the most for AIDS relief in various parts of the world.

and isn’t it Dems, namely those like Sandra Fluke, whose activism makes people think they can have sex at will, without consequences that see the trend of spread rise?

Just sayin’. If they didn’t push free love and all that jazz, maybe AIDS wouldn’t need so much funding…

“Bull” Connor (Democrat) was the Commissioner of Public Safety for the city of Birmingham, Alabama, during the American Civil Rights Movement. Connor infamously directed the use of fire hoses, and police attack dogs against peaceful demonstrators, including children.

Unfortunately, law enforcement has its hands tied theses days and can do very little to protesters today or this happens:

University of California, Davis Police Lt. John Pike uses pepper spray to move Occupy UC Davis protesters while blocking their exit from the school’s quad Friday in Davis, Calif. Two University of California, Davis police officers involved in pepper spraying seated protesters were placed on administrative leave and later terminated.

I get the passion you have and I understand firsthand how frustrating the current political environment is but there are no fewer than five posts where you advocate shooting someone in the face or some variation thereof. That rhetoric weakens your argument and hurts this board. Why would you want to confirm certain suspicions that many on the left have about some of us on the right?

To be honest, I’m torn about stuff like this, the gay community was ravaged by this disease in the 80′s. It surely was not a pleasant way to die. I’m good friends with a older gay couple in their 60′s who told me horror stories about losing so many friends when the disease first came about. My heart breaks for these people and their friends and loved ones. But at the same time, Jesus H Christ! We are over 30 years into this epidemic. We knew how to help prevent it by the time I was a pre -teen (I’m 39 now). Safer sex and not sharing needles are messages that have been around since at least 1985. If you live in America, only a true dullard doesn’t know how not to get it. The media tells you constantly, schools tell you, Planned Parenthood and many bars and nightclubs (gay and straight) even give out free condoms. Many larger cities even have needle exchanges for those poor souls who might need them. How the FUCK are there people in their teens,20′s and especially 30′s still getting this disease? It’s not like cancer or heart disease or other maladies you may get without doing anything to actively invite it into your life. In America (I’m making exceptions for rape victims, spouses who got it from an unfaithful partner/spouse, long term sufferers who survived the initial outbreak, etc) you HAVE to know how not to get it. Don’t get me wrong, I have compassion for those who suffer with this disease, but the overwhelming majority of newer cases are caused by being irresponsible. Of course I would like to see this disease eradicated (as any deadly disease, I lost my Dad to cancer 6 years ago and would give anything to have him back), but for shit’s sake you have to be responsible for yourself especially when this disease is so easy NOT to get! Forgive my rambling, but if I were to bring up this line of though in say, a gay bar, I’d probably be crucified. You can only educate folks so much, but at some point personal responsibility has to kick in.

Geoff, I’m in complete agreement with you on this.
About 20 years ago I lost my best friend to AIDS. He had been an IV drug user (cocaine) before I met him, and got it from a needle.
It is a horrible thing to watch an otherwise healthy, vibrant, person wither away from this.
In the last months of his life, his wife kept everyone away from him because he had gotten so bad. When she called me to tell me to come visit him before he dies, I rushed over and when I saw him, I broke down and cried, sobbing uncontrollably, fortunately, I left the room first so he didn’t see me. I loved him like a brother, and was so shocked to see him in this condition, that I lost control of my composure. When I recovered, I went back in the room and held his hand and talked to him. He was so far gone he was unable to even talk. He looked like an Auschwitz victim, skin hanging off of bones, no muscle tone, nothing. He was pretty much unrecognizable. It is a horrible way to die, and as you said, almost completely preventable. There are now drugs that can keep a person alive and otherwise healthy, and I have seen reports of people living for many years with this disease, and I keep thinking how unfair it is that these drugs were not available for my friend. I think about him all the time and get angry about how he died.
Just keep safe and stay away from the radical idiots.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. And even though it’s an almost entirely preventable disease, I still wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I just wish people would remember that even though with all the medical advancements over the years, it’s still a dangerous disease. Even though it isn’t necessarily a death sentence anymore, I don’t get people who put themselves in a position to have to take medication every day for the rest of their lives.

According to some studies I read, the discovery of drug cocktails that prevent death for HIV-positive men has caused a return to wanton no-protection sex in the gay community. Maybe worse than it was before the AIDS epidemic started. Gays actually say there is negative stigma now to being HIV-positve – in other words, it’s a bragging point in the gay community to be in Magic Johnson’s position.

Geoff B November 28, 2012 at 2:21 pm

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0

You’re absolutely right! These studies you refer to are precisely the source of my frustration. Why anyone would think having a dangerous disease is a bragging point is beyond me. What a lot of these people don’t realize, is while yes, due to the drug cocktails, HIV isn’t the death sentence it once was, there are all sorts of bad side effects to these medicines. Also, there isn’t just one strain of the virus, there are many and not using protection can allow these strains to mutate making these medications less effective. If this keeps up, someday soon we could be looking at an even worse epidemic than the origional one.

If anyone were to question this, all they would have to do is to take a look at how infections have become resistant to antibiotics.
I now have firsthand experience with how seriously doctors take it when you show up at the hospital with an infection. I was rushed in ahead of all the people who had been waiting in the ER when I arrived!
Almost any virus strain can become resistant to the treatment, why would you take such chances when there are simple precautions you can take? I just don’t get it.
