History repeats itself: Obama doesn’t get that national anthem thing

Remember back during the campaign when Obama didn’t quite get the concept of the national anthem (bottom photo)? Based on recent Veterans Day ceremonies (top photo), he still doesn’t.

Maybe things would have been different if they’d been playing the Kenyan national anthem.

No hand over the heart during the singing of the national anthem? Obama is only following the advice of his etiquette czar…Kanye West.

Nixon appointed the first “czar” in american politics, it wasn’t used again until Reagen’s drug czar. In actuality, none of those people or Obama’s carry the official title of czar. It’s simply a short term to describe high ranking cabinet members with broad powers. The Republicans were the first to use the term for their appointees, and have used them repeatedly. Stop acting like this is something new, or is somehow evidence of Obama being a communist.

I just keep thinking back to the old SNL bit, when Garret Morris was announcing guests at a gathering that a fictional queen was having in the 1600’s in England, and he announced “The Lord and Lady Douchebag”. Each time I see barry and his ho, I think of that scene.

Yes Obama is a statesman and that’s why our standing in the world community has improved dramaticly since his election. And don’t say the rest of the world doesn’t matter becuase you conservatives have been saying that “Clinton gave us a black eye” for over a decade.
And what’s more, George Bush was a broad his entire presidency. Oh, you said “abroad”.
Well, I stand by my statement anyway.

Jon, how hopeless and silly it is to Bush-bash when we’re 25% through Obama’s first term. Besides, this isn’t about Bush at all. It’s a question why Obama bows to kings and emperors, but doesn’t put his hand over his heart when our national anthem is played. Why are the customs of these foreign nation so important to him, but the custom of our own is not worth his effort to follow?

Truly pathetic. Someone puts his lapel flag pin on for him, but none of his handlers have taught him how to respond as an American during our anthem. No wonder people question his nationality.

Bush destroys the economy, gets us into two wars at once, was in charge during the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history, violated our rights regarding privacy, gave us a black eye in front of the world, let the wealthiest one percent and the corporations go tax and duty free while working people picked up the tab, and Obama is the bad guy because he doesn’t put his hand over his heart when hearing the national anthem? And even if he did would that redeam him in your eyes?
Obama can fix the economy, fix health care, get us out of the wars, and restore our freedoms but he can’t fix stupid. And my friends, you are very stupid people. Seriously, your stupidity is weakening our nation. If you’r not going to bother getting the facts then stay out of politics. You’ll do more harm than good.

Wow you corrected a typo, you got me there.
You’ve obviously missed my point. I don’t blame Bush for everything ( a lot of it but not everything) Fact is there is nothing Obama can do right in conservative eyes. It’s all sour grapes on your end and you guys have the nerve to talk about whiney liberals. Case in point, Limbaugh goes on the radio and says “Obama better not act like a week kneed liberal about this” Referring to the hostage taking of the Maersk Alabama’s captain. In the end the navy seals go in and take out the pirates and rescue the captain. Turns out some of the pirates were under the age of eighteen. Limbaugh then goes on the air and says “Obama’s out murdering teenagers on the high seas”. And it’s the same thing over and over again with conservatives.
Has it occured to you that your constant unrelenting personal attacks against the lawfully elected President Of The United States might be dis-respectful?
You got town-hallers out there painting him like The Joker and Hitler and accusing him of being a communist, you got Orly Taitz (who is a foreigner) chastizing him about a birth certificate he produced long ago, but none of that is un-american or dis-respectful. We should all be offended by the way he stands when the national anthem is played. Do you see the hypocracy?

He hasn’t been in office ten months. He came in with the worst fiscal crisis since the great depression. On top of that he was handed two wars, and a health care crisis. Wall street has rebounded (the DOW has went over ten thousand twice in the last month) however, jobs remain an issue because the big banks that received TARP money didn’t start lending to home buyers and small businesses. Not the president’s fault. The remaining billions that were to go to banks like AIG and Wells Fargo were re-routed by the president to credit unions and local banks. It is everyone’s hope that these institutions will use the money for it’s intended purpose and make money available to small business.
The U.S. economy is not a mom and pop store. You cannot turn it around that quickly. Like the President has said, we spent a long time messing it up, it’s going to take a little time to fix it.

When Obama gets done it may not be fixable If you charged Americans for the national debt, each citizen would have to shell out $38,940. If you just charged taxpayers, that tab would climb to $104,000 per person.

Our nation’s Total Assets now stand at $74 Trillion dollars, or $240,000 per citizen.

Now add in the “unfunded obligations” at $106 Trillion, and every citizen would have to shell out $344,000 to keep us afloat.

In other words…as a country, we are flat-broke!

By the way, if you don’t believe me, you can go to the National Debt Clock website and see for yourself. But I warn you don’t go there if you have a weak stomach.

As the people are made aware of this the moderates and Conservatives will make their thoughts known in 2010. By the way the greatest amount of this debt is from the 10 months of Obama.

Here’s what we got from Bush’s tax cuts:

If the Administration’s latest tax proposals — which would make permanent most of the tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 and establish new tax cuts on top of that — are enacted, the long-term results are likely to be even more troubling. Over the next 10 years, total tax-cut costs will equal $3.9 trillion, reaching nearly $600 billion or 3.3 percent of the economy in 2014 alone. (These calculations include the effects of the higher interest payments caused by the tax cuts.) The resulting higher deficits will slow future economic growth, saddle future generations with sizable interest payments, and leave the nation ill-prepared not only for the retirement of baby boomers but also for responding to potential future crises — from security matters to natural or environmental disasters — the particulars of which are unknown today.
Center on Budget And Priorities April 2004

Here’s some information on the Ugland House:

In its report to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, the U.S. Government Accountability Office states that Ugland House, George Town, Cayman Islands, whose sole tenant is the law firm Maples & Calder, is now the registered office of 18,857 distinct legal entities. This news was greeted with some incredulity at the Committee’s hearings on 24th July, where it was noted that 5 per cent of these entities were wholly U.S. owned, and up to half had a U.S. billing address.
Tax Justice Network July 2008

So let’s be clear here, you’re a fiscal conservative right? Why did you wait until Obama got in office to complain about national debt? Bush’s tax cuts, dead – beat corporations and massive outsourcing of american jobs throughout Bush’s presidency destroyed our economy and eroded our tax base. Now that Obama has no choice but to spend large amounts of money (which Bush started doing on his way out) to get things going again, you have a problem.

People like their leaders to be capable of some semblance of cotent and reasonable debate. They don’t see it coming from people who get their marching orders from Limbaugh and Beck. fix the economy? obama has done more to hurt the economy since he has been in office than anyone else. Follow the liberal news media and be taught to hate Bush. For what? The dems took control of the congress the last two years of Bush’s term and that is when the economy began to go south. They purposely destroyed the economy so they could take power and control. More companies are going out of business every day. unemployment is skyrocketing out of control, taxes are going up, services are down and you think Obama has fixed something?’ What?

Sure it was the Dems and not your corporate prostitutes? Listen, If the Republicans would stop giving our entire economy over to big business we wouldn’t be in this mess. Don’t worry. I know that you are taught to fear everything (that’s how the fascists exert power over their chickensh*t followers) but the Democrats will fix everything. Fear not, they are courageous and wise patriots and will see us out of this Republican mess. Then perhaps when enough people have grown fat and lazy and full of themselves in the newly created prosperity, they’ll elect another Republican and the cycle of destruction will begin again.

Jon, Sounds like a typical liberal issue-dodge to me. Lets blame it on Bush, Bush is evil blah blah blah. We get it, Obama was elected for being not-Bush. You can’t run a presidency on being not-Bush though.
What facts do people not have right? I would venture that nobody will argue that Obama did not put his hand on his heart. I didn’t see any other facts that were asserted.
Next time you plan to copy and paste out of the Huffington Post or wherever you got that load of crap, please take time to read through it to make sure the talking points are relevent.

I don’t vote out of fear nor do I take my marching orders from some fat drug addict on the radio or a sniveling cry baby on television. Sounds like your the issue dodger. If you can’t argue the issues you just sit around and gripe about every little thing you can find to complain about. “Hey that guy doesn’t stand the right way when they play the national anthem” I’m surprised the U.N. hasn’t requested your council on this issue.

Dems caused the worldwide financial collapse, forcing banks to issues subprime loans. It only takes an ounce of common sense to deduce which side, Dems or Republicans, would support a ‘mortgages for unemployable idiots’ program. You keep insisting you’re the compassionate side, so, please own up to the consequences of balancing an entire economy on a house of cards:

///////
Democrat fingerprints are all over the financial crisis

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/dominic-lawson/dominic-lawson-democrat-fingerprints-are-all-over-the-financial-crisis-949653.html

What is the proximate cause of the collapse of confidence in the world’s banks? Millions of improvident loans to American housebuyers. Which organisations were on their own responsible for guaranteeing half of this $12 trillion market? Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the so-called Government Sponsored Enterprises which last month were formally nationalised to prevent their immediate and catastrophic collapse. Now, who do you think were among the leading figures blocking all the earlier attempts by President Bush – and other Republicans – to bring these lending behemoths under greater regulatory control? Step forward, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

Kool-aid sucker, I mean Mudskipper,

Of course, why wouldn’t it be people. After all no one could accuse the banks of malfeasance with their interest – only pyramid scheme, or their re packaging of sub – prime mortgages. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were designed to help the people on the margines. They had jobs but perhaps had credit issues. It was the banking industry that found by shuffling some paperwork, and moving some numbers they could make a huge profit from loaning to people who didn’t qualify.
What’s more, we bled off millions of jobs to Mexico and China, we saw massive layoffs for tech workers only to see these same companies import HS1B visa workers from India for a fraction of the pay. Lay off millions of americans, and stagnate the wages of the rest and you’re going to have a mortgage crisis. Has it occurred to you that massive credit card defaults happened at the same time? Those had nothing to do with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Next, let’s talk about unionized workers and how they destroyed the auto industry. No doubt you’ve ate that pablum as well.
If you’re going to be a corporate spokesperson, get a paycheck for it.

Never really accomplishing anything in life you prefer to blame others for your failures and harbor hate for those who have succeeded. When you address others in a civilized discourse as “boy”, you forfeit given respect. You mirror every liberal I have ever met. Your “I know everything” attitude is off putting and childish. O.k. I’ve addressed this before but I’ll cover it again, I overlook typos because I’m not writing a thesis. Others on here are far worse than me, look around and see where I could have easily corrected them but stuck to the issue. Also, understand that at any time I am having three or four arguments at once across several articles on this site with any number of light weights like yourself.
I don’t hate America (see capital A that proves my patriotism) I have my father’s war medals proudly displayed in a shadowbox on the wall right above my monitor. I stand for the national anthem, and support our troops. I was very excited when Obama signed the new G.I. Bill into law because I thought “finaly, now that the Democrats are in charge the soldiers will get more than lip service”. But of course, I don’t have to prove any of this to you boy. By the way, other than that “boy” right there I don’t think I have referred to any one as boy. I may have said “boy, are you stupid” but that’s not calling someone boy but rather saying “golly, you sure are stupid”.
On the other hand I have referred to others as fat, pasty, diabetic, pansy and a litany of other names (all of which you may apply to yourself if you so desire) but not boy.
I’m quite happy with my accomplishments, and quite content. If I wasn’t I would probably go around blaming everyone else for my problems. You know like the government, blacks, homosexuals, single mothers. You know all the stuff you complain about.
You say I may be a hit with the teenage liberal girls. Obviously you’ve been admiring my picture (which I took several days ago just for this site). While I’m flattered that you think teenage girls like me, I am 40 so I wouldn’t know. I suppose you speak for teenage girls which tells me something about you (freudian slip anyone?).
You say you look forward to fighting me in the streets when the fecal matter hits the fan.
No you don’t. If you don’t beleive anything else I say beleive this, I am your greater both intellectually and physically.

The reason President Obama is not saluting in the photo is because at the moment the photo in question was taken, the US Air Force band was playing “Hail to the Chief” — so, if Obama had saluted at that moment, he would have been saluting himself!

The CSPAN video is proof. Skip to the 11:30 mark and you’ll see that what I’m saying is correct.

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/program/286572-1

By the way, the photo in question was taken at Arlington National Cemetery on 25 May 2009, not at Ft. Hood, Texas, on 11 November 2009, as some claim.
