The President says California has a brilliant energy policy that should be emulated by the rest of the country.
President Obama must be a Michael Jackson fan. Because when he talks about California’s energy policy, he’s definitely in Neverland.
Yesterday the President called California’s “energy-efficiency policies” an example for the rest of the nation and noted that “Californians consume 40 percent less energy per person than the national average.”
Harvard’s Edward Glaeser logically points out that California’s temperate climate has far more impact on the state’s low energy consumption than the state’s draconian energy policies.
“January temperature does a terrific job of explaining carbon emissions from home heating and July temperature does almost as well at explaining electricity usage,” Glaeser noted. “California has the most temperate climate in the country and as a result, homes use less heat in the winter and less electricity in the summer. In hot, humid Houston or frigid Minneapolis, people use plenty of energy to artificially recreate what California has naturally.”
According to the President’s illogical spin, California’s lack of power plants is another sign of its success. But in reality, California uses 20% more electricity than it generates and is forced to import power from neighboring states that aren’t crippled by California’s overly-strict environmental regulations.
The President may have been completely wrong about California, but at least he’s consistent. He’s wrong about the other 56 states, too.

What a stupid statement. The temperature of California is only temperate withing a dozen miles from the coast. In the south, it quickly becomes a desert, with temperatures well over 110 degrees. In the north, they get cold winters, similar to Kansas or Kentucky.
Your blind defense of Obama’s indefensible statement is laughable.
As lifelong residents of California, we hardly know where to begin with your misconceptions about the state’s weather. Let’s start from the bottom of your comment and work our way up.
“In the north, they get cold winters, similar to Kansas or Kentucky.” While that may be true, it’s immaterial. Fact is, almost no one lives in those regions of California, so they have virtually no impact on the state’s energy consumption.
“In the south, it quickly becomes a desert, with temperatures well over 110 degrees.” Again, few people live in areas of the state that have those temperatures. The only significant market in those desert areas is Palm Springs, which has a population of just 350,000. That’s only 1% of the state’s population, so it’s doubtful that they are sucking up too much energy. And the winters in the low desert are sunny and pleasant.
“The temperature of California is only temperate withing (sic) a dozen miles from the coast.” Are you insane? California is famous for having the most beautiful weather in the country. Maybe the world. People have been flocking here for the weather for a hundred years. Have you ever watched the Rose Bowl game on New Year’s Day? It’s always 70 degrees with crystal clear air. I grew up in inland California (75 miles from the coast) where the weather is almost uniformly fabulous. Sure, there are a few hot days in the summer, but no hotter than lots of other areas of the country. But the vast majority of the state has no snow in the winter and pretty mild temperatures all summer long.
In summary, you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.
Wondering if our president was a product of “Affirmative Action?” Ignorance is bliss!
Love the article! Especially the crack about the other 56 States
BHO will say anything — anything — to further his agenda.
What really gets to me is that so few people are seeing through his smoke and mirrors.
