Piers Morgan, world’s first Pope truther. The media figures something nefarious must be happening. After all, Piers says, the Queen of England hasn’t resigned. Maybe the most dispiriting news in all this, is that Piers Morgan is a Catholic.

Actually, he discredits whatever point of view he tries to put out there, so hurts the cause. So he can stay on CNN as long as he wants.

Let’s see: Pope Benedict is 85 years old, frail, tired and no longer able to perform the “job” of being the Pope. Accordingly, he wants to step down, retire, and allow for an orderly succession.

But our media intellectual giants are already sniffing out Oliver Stone type conspiracies.

I’m wondering if Pope Benedict is starting a precedent of Popes retiring rather than dying in office. With modern medicine and diets, people live longer than ever, but the papacy is a demanding office and elderly popes might prefer to end their years in quiet retirement, letting a younger, more dynamic pope serve in office.

Seems to me he’s making a rational decision. Germans are practical people – he’s old and can’t peform basic funtions of the job so he should retire.

Except that the next Pope will likely ALSO be in their 70′s or 80′s, so the problem remains. I am Anglican (Episcopalian in the US) so I can’t tell you how relieved I am that Piers is Catholic, not C of E. And while this is the first Pope to retire since, Oh, I don’t know the 1400′s or something? It HAS been done before, so I don’t see a conspiracy, just n exhausted older man trying to do the right thing for the church. Be intersting to see how it works out~

I was wrong when I predicted Cardinal Schonborn of Austria would replace John Paul II, but I’ll go ahead and predict again. I think they’re going to elect the African, Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana who is 64. The liberals will be in Heaven if they see a black Pope. But they’ll soon turn on him when they find out he is as conservative as Benedict. They say he would be the first black Pope, but I’m not sure about that. I think there were some black Popes early on. I think St. Augustine was black.

The thing is, when they had a black Pope in the past, it wasn’t a politically correct move.

Well, as Piers demonstrates, their brains can die and yet their mouths keep right on babbling and nobody is the wiser.

One can only hope that one of the last things the Pope does before he retires is Excommunicate Piers Morgan’s sorry ass.

Piers is so shallow. Does he have any idea how demanding the papacy is for a man two months short of 86? It’s way beyond just being “tired”. No doubt the media will look into conspiracy theories on this as they remain uninterested in the foggy background of the POTUS. I knew Piers was Catholic, but wonder how since he defends every liberal position, while the Church condemns many liberal positions. Personally, I would prefer that the Pope stay in office until the end of his life, but I accept and respect Benedict’s decision.

In my community, you are forever Cathoolic if yoou were baptized Catholic, even if you are now regularly attending a church of a different (or no) denomination. Or if you really have no use for the Pope, they church, Jesus, God, or anything related. They will still say they are Catholic. Haven’t attended since Vatican II but they are by God Catholic!

Mormons are the same way. Once baptized, always baptized.

I wonder if the Queen knows he is Catholic. I thought it was treason to be something other than the Church of England and be British.

I don’t think the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829 applied to England (only Ireland.) It’s not illegal to be a Catholic in England, but I’m not sure if you could become a Member of Parliament, or hold other public office.
