The Berlin Wall came down twenty years ago today. So this might be a good time to take a look at Ronald Reagan’s “Tear down this wall” speech from June of 1987.
A note of explanation for Barack Obama: Mr. President, sir, if you happen to be reading IHateTheMedia.com, this video is a dandy instruction guide. Please watch it a few times and follow Reagan’s example next time you have to deal with a ruthless dictator.
Because your current approach ain’t working.

Our son is working in Munich right now so he went to Berlin for the weekend to take part in the celebration. I asked him for an eye witness report for my students. Here are some excerpts – these observations are from today, in Berlin:
A lot of the older people are a bit disappointed, especially
non-Germans (I noticed a lot of this in Prague). They had expected
freedom to give them more. I don’t think most of they realized how
much work freedom takes to be successful.
In Berlin I took a tour of the city and the guide was talking about
the day the wall fell. He said the East Berliners came swarming over
the wall on a Thursday, and went back to work in the East on Monday.
They didn’t want to be Westerners, they just wanted the freedom to
travel and see their families. He also said they ate all of the
bananas in the city and packed the movie theaters because those were
two things they couldn’t get.
Me again: He also said that the people remember Reagan and his role, contrary to what they were saying today. Good to have boots on the ground!
Dear Admin,
Thanks for the video. I always tear up when I hear those simple, yet profound words, “Mr. Grobachev, tear down this wall!”
It was nice to hear the President again. I sure miss him.
And thanks for sharing your son’s insights.
It’s refreshing to hear such moral clarity and courage of conviction coming from a president.
Obama won’t show because it’s not about him.
What’s almost as bad as Obama not showing is the left wing media’s take on the wall coming down. Rather than praising Regan (which would probably get this kicked out of the White House praise – opps I mean press pool), they choose to make Gorby the hero, are you kidding me??
