Hilarious: Arkansas Congressman wants to cut funding for Obama’s teleprompter

by editor on February 17, 2011

Sure, our economy is rapidly swirling clockwise down the porcelain convenience, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a laugh along the way.

Fox News reports one of the more creative ideas about cutting the budget:

The House formally began debate, which is expected to last three days, Tuesday afternoon following some wrangling over the hundreds of amendments lawmakers want to attach to the package. More than 400 amendments were filed Monday night. Among them were a proposal from Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., to eliminate funding for the president’s Teleprompter and one from Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, to strip funding for the alteration, repair or improvement of the executive residence of the White House and instead divert that amount to deficit reduction.

Womack told Fox News Tuesday afternoon that he pulled his amendment because he wasn’t able to get an estimate on how much it would save.

“I think we made our point,” Womack said. “We’re asking people to do more with less. And I think the president ought to lead by example. He is already a very gifted speaker. And I think that’s one platform he could do without.”

We hope that Congressman Womack has his tongue planted firmly in his cheek when he says Obama is a gifted speaker without his Teleprompter. But just in case he really believes thast, we proudly present these brief reminders of what it’s like when POTUS tries to speak without TOTUS.

I don’t think any of us would be surprised to find out that most politicians use Teleprompters. What surprises us is that we were told over and over and over again that this man was one of the greatest public speakers in history and the most brilliant man to occupy the White House since Jefferson. Take away his Teleprompter and those tall tales turn out to be about as true as his numbers on the economy.

I dunno about cutting the maintenance budget for the White House….Improvements and remodeling, sure. Maybe reduce the maintenance budget from 6 figures down to low 5′s. Or even high 4′s.

WH math…

Obama + teleprompter = Empty Suit
Obama x teleprompter = Empty Suit
Obama – teleprompter = Emptier Suit

You can’t take the teleprompter away or people will start to think that he did lots of drugs in his past.

As far as the remodeling of the White House goes, I am all for it. Maintenace is one thing, but as for re-decorating for each new First Lady at a cost of millions of dollars to the tax payers is rediculous! No one should have a say. Just have it done, say, in early American, and that’s it. You get what you get. They won’t EVER be there more than eight years anyway. It is not really “Their” home anyway. Re -upolster as things get worn, or whatever, but everything stays exactly the same.

Disagree. The next incomming first lady deserves some funds to get the zoo stink out of the joint when she moves in.

Sounds like a very good place to start to me in reducing the fedral deficit. He could then go back to having note cards.

Because the Democrats would never do anything like that, right? Like make fun of people with different thinking in the media, or a president using his state of the union to talk down to people in organizations like the tea party.

You’d never see anything like that from the left.

“Shawn Womack is not and has never been an US Representative from Arkansas.” You are absolutely correct. However, this story clearly says it’s about STEVE Womack, who is, indeed, a Congressman from Arkansas’ 3rd District. Care to apologize to us and to Fox News now?
