Campaigning is easy, governing is tough
How the mighty have fallen. In the polls, that is. According to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, Obama’s still in positive territory. Barely.
The latest survey puts the president’s approval at 49%-46%. But that’s not just low, it’s historically low. Here’s how other presidents have fared at this point in their presidencies:
George W. Bush 86%
John Kennedy 77%
George Bush 71%
Dwight Eisenhower 69%
Richard Nixon 59%
Jimmy Carter 57%
Bill Clinton 54%
Reagan 49%
Obama 49%
Although they both had 49% approval rating, that evil conservative Ronald Reagan rates higher than Obama because his negatives were lower (41% for Reagan vs 46% for Obama).
The poll of 1,025 adults, taken by landline and cellphone, has a margin of error of 4 percentage points, which means that Obama’s approval rating could be as low as 45%.
Give it another couple months and Obama will be recalling these as the good old days.

Why was Reagan so low? That is interesting…
And as for Obama… what does one expect he tried to fundamentally change america in less than year and those pesky liberty loving people are not letting him.
KQ,
Reagan was low early in large part because the MSM beat the hell out him. They never liked him, & they still don’t like him. But the people lived under Reagan, & then came to like it. Might explain the numbers.
Obama was built up by the MSM, & now the people are living under Obama, & they ain’t liking it. I think Obama’s numbers will go down further. I am also reminded of what El-Rushbo has said about the MSM trying to tear him down. He says it is almost impossible for the MSM to tear him down because they did’nt build him. Obama was built up big time by the MSM, & could be brought easily. Tiger Woods might be an example of a God(of sorts)that is being cut down to size by the MSM.
You make excellent points. The media turns their back on the idols they create when they see the people turning their backs on the media and their pocketbooks become deflated. Then the media gets on the hate bandwagon. Surprisingly it didnt take that long but you dont see it 100% as you saw it with Bush yet, it may still happen.
The fact that there are even small signs of the state-run media questioning Obama is actually quite heartening, I think. And I believe that the reason you don’t see more of it is because the papers don’t fear their pockets getting light and losing readers anymore. After all, the government they love will bail them out if need be, right? With any luck, someday soon, the media will get kicked square in the nuts by good ol’ Lady Reality.
I wasn’t old enough to really appreciate Reagan when he was with us. I do remember always being impressed with him, and the more I look back on things now as an adult, the more I like what I see. It is hard to believe that his numbers were ever that low.
I have heard great things about Reagan overall so I am surprised that his numbers were that low. Especially after Carter who by most accounts was one of the worst Presidents we have had.
You are right I forgot that the govt does thing bailing out worthless newspapers is part of their plans. That truly sucks.
Interesting, when Reagon was in office many people were out of work including my parents and many of my friends’ parents. So for many who didn’t get a chance to poll, he was not a good president and didn’t try hard for ALL Americans. On the other hand, President Obama is trying to look out for all Americans and get a low approval rating from a couple thousand people and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Crazy! If we only can see what really happens when, people react out of fear instead of truth.
By the way, President Obama was not responsible for this downward cycle, he’s the receipent and is penalized for trying to move it upward. Sad, sad and people say no to help. WOW!!!!
Obama is full of it. He said he would allow us to get meds from Canada and Mexico, now that he’s in office he says no. I wonder who’s got him in their pocket? We’re still at war and he said we wouldn’t be.
I hate how politicians never do what they say they will. From now on I am voting Libertarian. It is like the multiple choice tests, if you don’t know the answer, mark “C,” it needs to change from a two party system.
I love how the left is all for the re-importation of drugs to control costs, but are for protectionist policies elsewhere to “protect” jobs while keeping prices artificially high for consumers. Maybe these policies are why so much of what we buy says “Made in China” on the label.
That is the only time one can see Regan and Obama put side by side for a fair comparison.
History tells us all that Regan did, in a positive sense, by the time his run as POTUS was up. History is being written about how low Barry can sink the nation before he gets relieve of his job.
Of the 44 men who held that position- Obama is the lowest on the list.
Stay tuned, Obama will go lower. Much lower.
Candace, you are SOO disalusioned… get help, girl.
Candace you are so right, the biggest myth of all is Reagan,a GE corporate mouthpiece and B actor !The Reagan Administration had the most indictments ever (yes ,even more then the CROOK Tricky Dick Nixon)! He conspired with Iranian terrorists to help get himself elected and traded guns for drugs with these Iranian Hostage takers and Central American nun murdering dictators, and also dealt with Saddam Hussein and the group that would become Alqueda! He drove our manufacturing base over seas with his attacks on our workers and his constant Un- American theme of “the United States Government is not the solution it is the problem” !The biggest myth was Reagan the Tax cutter,HE RAISED TAXES almost every year and still tripled the debt, he had the second biggest Wallstreet Crash ever in ‘87 ,and on his watch also the ‘82 Recession and the ‘90 Recession that he also has blame in!And do you know why they have to lie to build up President Reagan ,the other Republicans President and VP’s since Eisenhower(the last good Repub.)are even worse ,check this list of utter disappointment ,Nixon,Agnew,Ford,Bush 1,Quayle,GW Bush!
