U.S. COAST GUARD MEMBER KILLED AFTER SMUGGLERS RAM HIS VESSEL. People don’t often think of the Coast Guard as being a risky career. They’re brave men and women. A prayer for Terrell Horne III would be appropriate about now.

if it’s unexpected, i reckon even a bump from a much smaller object can cause great distress. apparently.
I know I couldn’t serve on the seas.

just more evidence to support the re-legalization of marijuana. THEN the coasties could concentrate on boats they could detect, esp. cig boats.

On the news this morning they said the smugglers RAN OVER the Coast Guard boat, hitting the 2 men and killing one.
Not exactly a little bump.

I don’t see how a pango boat could run over the coastie boat. That’s just s*itty journalism. even a quick perusal of pango images shows they’re to low in the water to run over any thing except the water and maybe narrow sandbars.
T. Horne III was in the bow and tossed from his boat, receiving serious head injuries. It could be they meant to say HE was run over by the pango.
Stupid media “journalists.” Yeah I know I wasn’t there to witness it, and I don’t know a thing about boats really, but even a passing familiarity with kinetics, mass ratios, and educated supposition allows me to (with some credibility) say the “reporters” botched the story. AGAIN.

So, it’s not possible for one of these boats to hit a wave and go airborn?

Not high enough go over the Coast Guard boat in question.

This quote from the article, “The small Coast Guard boat was deployed by the cutter Halibut, which was conducting an investigation into suspected smuggling near the Channel Islands west of Malibu.” leads me to believe the boat rammed was an inflatable boarding craft. Some of those images show some pretty small boats. Also, the pango was probably souped-up by the smugglers with a large and powerful motor.

difficult to tell, but this is a boat off the cutter, so now it makes more sense,

as for my first post, in my defense i didn’t read the disclaimer, in parenthesis below the pic.

That being the case, then the rules of engagement for the Coasties most definitely needs to be amended.

OK, that’s not the boat they showed on the original article.

well, the little boat is the one that is deployable, it’s the only pic of a boat from the Halibut i could find.
the original article pic was captioned: U.S. Coast Guard Vessel (subject of article not pictured)
so the caption didn’t do anything to clarify the boat type that was hit.
in naval parlance, and I only know this from what i’ve heard, not personal experience, a boat is any vessel that can be launched from another vessel. again, shoddy journalism at work.

(edit) by the time I got all the ingredients for the bacon bomb, and all the other runnin around i had to do, I decided to put it off til tomorrow, or perhaps later in the week when the temp won’t rise out of the 30′s. besides, tis foggy, misty, humid today. not a great day for pork. more of a miller and deep-fried food type of day. mmmmmm freedom fries and chicken tits um,,, i mean breasts.

God Bless Terrell Horne III and his family. They are in our thoughts and prayers.

The Coast Guard personnel are all heroes in the work they do. Not a lot of people know what they do and they should.

In a sane world I would say seal the borders but with 0bongo in office it would fall on deaf {rather large} ears.
On a related note I heard 0dumbo welcomes 165,000 low skill workers into the U.S. each month.

Low skilled, (and probably poorly educated) workers. And just which group of Americans is this going to hurt the most with job opportunities? (This question is aimed at liberal loons, not you Al)
More proof that the Commiecrats don’t give a damn about American blacks, they already have their votes. They are just working on the votes of a new group, whom they really don’t give a damn about either. And for that matter, the only group they do give a damn about are the uber rich that line their off shore (tax exempt) bank accounts.

The Coast Guard is an extremely hazardous job. The search and rescue aspect of their job is some pretty serious business. Most people don’t realize the extent to which they are also used to intercept smuggling operations at sea, usually at night! Kudos to our Coasties!!!!

You ever watch Deadliest Catch?
They have shown several rescue missions by the Coast Guard. They do some amazing stuff in horrible conditions.

Once upon a time, killing a customs agent while smuggling on the high seas (Which members of the Coast Guard were considered) meant a long drop with a short rope. Lets hope this law still applies to these scumbags.

it doesn’t. Tom Clancy’s Clear and Present Danger poked into this idea.

tis a shame really.

Probably this is the result of more PC bullshit (redundancy). The CG ought to broadcast “Stop, right f*cking now!” on the radio and on a loudspeaker. In English and in Spanish. Right f*cking now, means within 10 seconds the engines better be off. Doesn’t happen? Blow their ass out of the water!!!! The word would get around to these smugglers in a damn hurry. Now they know that if they run, they may have a chance to get away knowing that the liberal assholes (damn another redundancy) wont allow the CG to take aggressive action. The liberalassholes (space intentionally omitted) would much rather our CG people get killed than harm a hair on the head of these smuggling shitheads. How do you suppose the Russkies would handle this? Boom!!!!! Hahaha! Don’t libs want us to be more like Russia???
Legalizing mj will not stop this. I dont know what a bag of pot costs, but you can damn well bet the street pot will be a hell of a lot cheaper and have a bigger kick than the crap the government approves. Yeah sure, it will most likely contain parts unknown but pot heads dont give a damn. They are interested in price and effect.

I disagree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Law_of_Prohibition

mayhap the feds will turn to really harmful types of smuggling, like people smuggling, and/or white slavery. things that actually damage lives and ruin health.
