In a similar vein, The View’s Whoopi Goldberg seems to support the president, but not his mission. She loves Obama, but seems far less enamored with the taxes he brings to the party.
“I’m losing my mind,” the abrasive comedienne said, “because I don’t understand why, like they, one of the things that I saw recently, they have this whole thing about taxing the wealthy. Okay. Now, I don’t mind that. I don’t mind paying a little more tax ’cause I make a good living. But I don’t want to get it coming and going. I don’t want to get the federal raised and then the state raised and then the phone tax raised and then the television tax raised and then the city tax. Back off me!”
We’d like to be there when Whoopi finds out about Obama’s plan to tax dreadlocks.

Wow… I had to see it twice. I still cannot believe she actually said that. It is true that some people dont mind paying a bit more taxes because they can afford to live on less, however getting taxes EVERYWHERE else is not ideal. Also who determines how much money anyone can live on and be enough? University/College is getting expensive per year, maybe people want to send their kids to a good one and taking more of their money out will prevent them from doing it.
Taxes are insidious and they don’t stop at one level, because when a tax is raised somewhere else, somewhere else feels the pinch and creates and fees and taxes to make up for it and it trickles down. Granted the ones that feel it the most are the poor and the middle class, but it means that a lot of rich people are going to be thinking twice about hiring, investing, opening businesses and buying things and doing things (like home improvement) which trickles down and is effective and keeping the economy going.
I say pay one tax to the state for roads and crap and one tax to the federal for protection (military), get rid of sales taxes and flying taxes and phone taxes and blah blah blah taxes. Why do I have to pay a fee which is a tax when I want to build something in my own house which land I own? and why have a property tax that increases if I want to do something nice on it like a pool? It is high way robbery.

Kimmy, one of the biggest farces in this country is land ownership. The best we can hope for is to rent it. Reoccuring property taxes are nothing more than perpetual rent. Stop paying the “rent” and you are evicted.
This raises another question. Why is the same item taxed over and over again? If you own a piece of property long enough, you stand to pay more in taxes than the property is worth. Go figure.

If it weren’t for Proposition 13, the lunatics in Sacramento would have taxed every man, woman and child out of their homes. No one would be able to afford to live in California. And now the libs who run the state intend to make a serious run at reversing Prop 13. If they’re able to do it, the exodus from this state will be unbelievable.

Right. We dont own our lands we are renting it from the government. To this we the silent majority have let the govt intervene. Once I get the land it should be mine and whatever the hell I want to build on it, it is my business. Paying fees for stuff that I built in my home and asking the government permission to built it is disgusting.
