Why are the NFL Talking heads talking about gun control?
Distraction, pure and simple. If they talk about how the eeeeeevil guns are killing people, they don’t look at the brute behind the gun — and even more important, they keep people from typing “football head injury turn violent” into google, and see some 5.1 MILLION hits about what happens to football players after a lifetime of head injuries. Anything to keep that ol’ gravy train rolling along. However, any fool could have seen that head injuries in football are a problem. Case in point: Chris Matthews.

That’s part of it. The other is that there are a lot of eyeballs on those football games; therefore, the broadcasts become a vehicle for disseminating propaganda to a large audience. I have watched my last NBC Sunday night game. I don’t care who is playing. I’m only surprised that it has taken this long to do this kind of thing during highly rated sports events. Imagine the crap they can sling during the Superbowl if they choose.

…I have heard Whitlock on a number of times over the years, & he came across as a bright guy with well thought out opinions. I guess I was wrong, & now he seems to not want to explain his comments to Roland Martin. The fact that Whitlock fellt comfortable enough with Martin to say what he said says volumes about his true values as a person. So Jason, you effed up, & you can & will be dismissed in the future. Beyond the gun control aspect, I’m turned off by all the sympathy for this thug who killed his girlfriend in front of his mother and daughter after spending the night with another woman. Sure, I understand the tragedy of a human spirit surrendering to evil, but in the final analysis that’s what this was, a surrender to evil by his choice. He deserves no sympathy.
As for the head injury business, I thought the team said he hasn’t had any concussions. Are you sure the head injury crap isn’t just an excuse to turn a thug into a victim?

Don’t kid yourself, I am a lifelong hockey fan, & there are more then a few tragic stories involving hockey players, head injuries, painkillers, & the pressures of needing to be tough enough to play in pain even when you should’nt. Suicides & drug related deaths involving painkillers do happen in hockey. Plus head injuries have been as big an issue in the NHL as it has been in the NFL. Same issue & culture, different sports.

Sorry if I came off harshly, & thanks for NOT taking real offence. But I’m a Minnesota guy, we grow up with hockey, it’s a big deal here, & as much as I love it, there is a very dark side involving painkillers used for injuries, head injuries & the longterm effects, & the off the ice trouble that can happen. Many only see hockey on ESPN, esspecially in non traditional hockey areas. The only reason you hear more about the troubles with football players way more then hockey is the profile of the sports is different, as well as the family backrounds & the cultures in which they come from.

Many athletes on every level have never heard NO and when they do hear it, they can not deal with it. Jacksman is right no father figure to jerk his ass back in line when he started showing the traits of an abuser. Of the NFL talking heads, they have no clue as they have lived the sheltered life and have their body guards right there with them.
All of them are trying to blame access to a gun, OJ Simpson didn’t use a gun, he used a knife, others have used ball bats, claw hammers, a tire iron and the most disturbing of all was a toilette plunger. So, if someone wishes to kill someone, access to a gun has nothing to do with it.

Thanks Robert. The entire country is obsessed with the trivial. All that “enhancement” from surgery to drugs interferes with some OTHER body system. Boobs are for food. Once they are enhanced, they look stupid and are nonfunctional. Men take steroids to look ripped, but ther peepees shrink into nothingness. I was listening to Schnitt Monday afternoon, and he had a caller from Tampa that claimed to know Belcher intimately, because Belcher used to bully his kid when he went to High School on Long Island.
The man claimed that he had to move his family to Tampa to get his son away from Belcher and his gang of thugs before his son was killed.

Those might be the reasons he ended up playing college football at the Univ. of Maine & not at a major conference school with a national television TV deal. He was a good player, & made it to the NFL. He may have been too much trouble to be recruited at many big time programs, & thus ended up in Orono, Maine.

Have them check his thyroid. My step-father was mis-diagnosed by 4 or 5 doctors before we found one who picked up on the real problem. The other’s were telling us he had Alzheimer’s. We didn’t believe it because he was fine one day, then wacky the next. Alzheimer’s doesn’t happen overnight, so we pushed and bingo. It did mimic a lot of the symptoms though.
