We’re very sorry your submission was buried by the community. Unfortunately, not all content resonates with such a diverse group of people on a community-run website, which Digg is. In fact, there are stories with tens, hundreds, even thousands of Diggs that get buried.

Just as there are myriad reasons for deciding to Digg a submission, a user might bury a story because of a variety of factors. We give users the option of simply clicking the “Bury” button, which is considered a “general bury” by our system, but there are other, more specific, bury reasons a user can identify when burying a submission. Mousing over the “Bury” button displays a drop-down menu offering optional bury reasons. These include “Duplicate Story,” which marks the item as being exactly the same or similar enough to a previously submitted story as to render it, in the user’s opinion, redundant. Another option is “Spam,” which identifies the story as being one of a plethora of spam types, from blog spam that repurposes content to take advantage of advertising revenue to part of an overwhelming influx of items from the same source (there’s more information about spam in our FAQ section). “Wrong Topic” can be chosen if a story about the iPhone, for example, was placed by the submitter into the Basketball instead of the Apple category. Users also have the option of choosing “Inaccurate” as a bury reason. If a submission is repeatedly buried with this reason, we display a message toward the top of the page indicating that the story may be inaccurate. Finally, we provide users with one other simple and slightly cheeky option: “OK, This is Lame.”

Please note that the promotion or burying of stories is managed by an algorithm developed by Digg, and there is no specific threshold of Diggs or buries required to promote or bury a story. Instead, our algorithm takes several factors into consideration, including, but not limited to, the number of Diggs and reports, the time the story was submitted, the topic and the diversity of user actions. We don’t display who buried stories as we’re concerned about fomenting wars among users, many of whom might feel uncomfortable sharing their negative actions with others (although, of course, users are free to share that they have buried a story for whatever reason in the comment section).

Additionally, when the community buries a story it does not disappear from Digg altogether. If a user has Dugg, submitted or commented on the story, there will be a link on his or her profile. The story also remains searchable at http://digg.com/search/ — just be sure to select “Include Buried Stories.”

PS, I like your attitude – until they repeal the 1st Amendment, we are going to keep talking.

We will be starting a conservative-wide movement to “bury” Digg, as far as conservatives are concerned. Let the libs play there. There is simply no need to Digg a conservative article any longer. Unless you are a top 5 conservative website, you’ll be buried before you get to 100 Diggs. We’ll be letting you know of this project soon.

Reddit, filled is teenage crazy leftists as well, will downvote your submission, but at least they don’t allow burying. And to the credit of the administration there, they have never banned us or removed a story. At least they are honest.

Digg is has had it’s time. And it’s nearly over. We’re going to help it end sooner than later.

They will just shoot you down. The best approach is to ignore them. Conservatives dont waste their time on Digg and liberals dont want to read anything that puts dear leader in a bad light.

As Rush says, its a waste of your time waiting for validation from liberal media. The best you will get from them is mild humiliation. Dont Do it!
