Woman “shot” and wounded after bullets left in her OVEN explode. Guess it’s time for a national conversation about ovens. As a certain Colorado Dem pol might suggest, this is why we have McDonalds and Pizza Huts because when you turn on an oven you don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at.

Incidents like this will give the gun control crowd ammunition for their cause.

Yeah, but I look at it another way: almost everything in the modern world is capable of being abused by the foolish, the incompetent or someone intentionally looking to create harm.
What if this bozo decided to store his spare gasoline in the oven and it exploded? Would there be a cry to ban gasoline? Incredibly stupid and no one would do that, but yet this idiot decided to store bullets there, and those things are about equal on the stupidity scale. Everybody who ever watched the 3 Stooges as kids knows there are certain things you don’t do with bullets and/or gasoline.
Society can rationally appeal to ban things when their benefits are far outweighed by their risks. The current gun “debate” reflects a cultural divide – people who live in low-crime, well-protected areas where their neighbors are all hard-working, peaceful people don’t see any need for guns and believe individual ownership of them is an anachronism. People who live in areas where government protection is less available and/or high crime areas would probably think otherwise.
I don’t know much about Tampa but my thought is that people on both sides of the issue need to be able to see where the other is coming from. Unfortunately, I think you are right and the media and the politicians will seek to demagogue this.

Sorry BOA, my post was a lame shot at getting a pun thread going. Looks like I mis-fired. Your post hit the bullseye, as always!

Ugh, I’m embarrassed to say I missed the first pun (no pun intended) but at least I got the second.

Silly me, I always kept my ammo in the microwave.

It is much harder to direct fire when using an oven.

When are we going to start having a rational, common-sense discussion about OVENS?
Because . . . wait for it . . .
YA KNOW WHO ELSE USED OVENS?!?

I’m calling BS on this one.
The bullet itself has the mass, when a unsupported cartridge explodes the brass case is projected away and the heavy bullet says put.
I’ve played around with this when I was a kid, even the mythbusters did a segment.

Perhaps it was the shell casing that inflicted the wounds?

According to the story it was the casing.
Chicago-style pizza, now with bullet toppings.

I still call bullshit. First, I don’t buy the story that a guy comes home, ejects a mag with four rounds in it, puts the gun away in a cabinet, then puts the mag in the oven. Second, who makes waffles in the oven? Third, since the bullet does not act as if it’s coming out of a barrel, and the brass flies off like shrapnel, I’m not buying that the pieces of brass penetrated an oven door and caused injuries requiring a trip to the hospital.

Correct. Total bullshit. For fun, when sitting around a campfire, drop some .22 rounds in the fire. Watch people scatter. All that happens is the shell splits. Without the shell being in a chamber, the energy just splits the shell. Soft brass. Higher caliber rounds do the same. Loud bang. Bullets do not fly. The brass does not fragment into shrapnel.

Especially when softened by the heat of the fire.

If this woman showed up in the hospital with “shrapnel” wounds, it came from something other than her WallyWorld greeter putting his partially loaded magazine in the oven.

I wonder if she’ll duck next time she puts popcorn in the microwave?

Paint it black and you’ll have mandatory federal registration.

Then Mick Jagger will have to change the words to – I see an oven and I want it painted black…

Actually, the way my mom used to cook I think she already invented this. (Hint – we used to call her biscuits hockey pucks).

Will woodburning stoves be outlawed too?

I think the carbon restrictions would cover that.
