CNN deep sixes Client number nine: “In the Arena” is put out to pasture

by editor on July 10, 2011

After just nine months on the air the former governor of New York is now the former host of a political talk show. Eliot Spitzer has been CaNNed. The smarmy, smirking political prostitute has whored himself out on for the last time. On television, that is.

Eliot Spitzer: The TV talk show host with a face made for radio

The New York Times has the obligatory obituary:

CNN on Wednesday cancelled Eliot Spitzer’s 8 p.m. political talk show, “In The Arena,” after only nine months, and said it would shift Anderson Cooper’s 10 p.m. nightly newscast into the time slot.

The cable news channel also said that Erin Burnett, a new hire from CNBC, would take over the 7 p.m. time slot on weekdays, replacing John King, who will move to 6 p.m. “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” which currently runs from 5 to 7 p.m., will move to 4 to 6 p.m.

The phrase “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic” comes to mind.

The shake-up is intended to stabilize CNN’s television ratings and create better transitions between shows. The only prime time show that is unaffected is “Piers Morgan Tonight,” the 9 p.m. interview show that was introduced six months ago.

… The executive in charge of CNN/U.S., Ken Jautz, said in an internal memorandum that the channel is currently “in discussions with Eliot Spitzer about an alternative role.” But Mr. Spitzer’s own statement cast doubt on that possibility; it concluded by saying, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CNN.”

Spitzer could have added, “Being a political talk show host was a real role reversal for me. I’d been used to being the john, but CNN gave me the opportunity to get paid for screwing people.”

Two indirect consequences of this action: Kathleen Parker is unable to wipe the smile off her face and Piers Morgan is unable to wipe the flop sweat off his brow.

Go away Rick and leave us alone! We already have enough trolling going on between Jameela and Oblivia, we don’t need your two cents worth!

Geez, Rick, not all of us have a fixation on politician’s dicks.

We formally recognize your knowledge of Client number 9, and wonder if he gave you a medal when you signed up for his fan club.

Love your gravatar… both the think tank from whence Obama’s fiscal ideas spring and the economy’s final destination. How the president comes full circle!

I’ve seen that look on Spitzer’s face a lot. Reminds me of the farting preacher vids. Only this time, CNN is the one who farted in the first place by hiring this alley cat.

Why is it , if you screw-up big time as a politician you get a tv or radio show? This guy was a governor, (from what I hear noty worth a damn) but hanging out with hookers? For some reason the libs are penis-obsessed. either they want to expose themselves (are you reading this anthony?) or they want to legislate how you use it…Man if they even paid one tenth the attetion to the economy, jobs, foreign policy and crime, we’d be sitting petty, instead we get Spitzer, Weiner, Clinton, Kennedy(s), and all the rest that have a need to expose themselves to others, must have something to do with their party symbol, A large ass. That little cranium does all the thinking, even it appears at CNN for putting this guy on the air..How cares what he thinks, He’s a has been and has all the moral character of Charles Manson….Which makes me think..How does Debbie Washerhands get out a single thought without the little cranium and little teleprompter? I am just saying…..

So long Kathleen. She was to CNN what David Brooks is to the Times.

Don’t feel bad, about 9 people west of the George Washington Bridge know who he is, & not even that many cared what he says.

I always thought CNN should of hired his wife as his co-host. She would never speak, just sit there next to him every show with that tormeneted look like she had at his press conference when he resigned. I think that would of been pure genius of CNN and I would of watched every show. But then again they did that except the woman with the tormented look was kathleen Parker. It would of been funnier if was his wife.

I think Elliot’s next move should be to get together with Weiner and star in a movie version of that old SNL skit with Steve Martin and Dan aykrold. Elliot and Anthony as two wild and crazy guys crusing the New York club scene. While Elliot threatens to steamroll girls unless they go go back to his apartment and have sex with them,Anthony just exposes himself constantly.

Putting his wife on WOULD have been genius. If they had done that, I might’ve actually gone to the trouble to find CNN amongst the millions of useful channels and watched it for the first time in a couple of decades. C’est dommage.

He can look at the bright side, plenty of chances to guest host with his ole buddy Keith Oblabberman. Better make it quick though, ratings ain’t looking so good.

Eliot is accustomed to his inner circle containing people who suck, some he paid, others pay him.
