Tit for tax: Michelle Obama announces new breastfeeding program

by editor on February 17, 2011

We’re a bit old school here at IHatetheMedia.com.  So much so that, until recently, we didn’t realize there were any barriers to breastfeeding. You know, once the breasts and an appetite had been provided for. But apparently there are and Her Imperial Majesty Michelle Antoinette is planning on milking it for all it’s worth.

Any story about boobs has to be accompanied by a photo of these two

Politics Daily has exposed the subject:

First lady Michelle Obama will be speaking out to remove barriers to breastfeeding, Politics Daily has learned, throwing the spotlight on nursing as a way to reduce childhood obesity.

This comes as the Obama administration in the past year has made several moves to encourage breastfeeding — including a push for more flexible workplace rules and an Internal Revenue Service ruling on Thursday that breast pumps and other nursing supplies qualify for tax breaks.

The article goes on for a bit after that. But you know the old phrase, anything more than a mouthful is wasted.

We’re not entirely sure what a “push for more flexible workplace rules” will look like. Perhaps instead of cubicles companies will have to provide lactating females with more private accommodations. These accommodations might very well come to be affectionately known as Boobicles. But only until HR gets involved.

In any case we cannot help but marvel at the moxie of this administration. Not content with their voters figuratively suckling at the government tit, they’ve gone off and found a way to subsidize the real thing.

She has issues. Am the only one to think that she has serious issues with food? I don’t think this is normal.

Nanny state is getting too big and our First Lady (?) is way too involved with food. She needs to talk to someone about this. She is not going to get me involved with her issues with food. If she has fears and anxieties she needs to work it out and not involve everyone in her problems.

Jugs are nice Moochelle but I bet we got bigger fish to fry, but that’s okay, you stay right there inside your little bubble and leave the heavy lifting to the rest of us.

Just like other AA hires. She’s given a big title and a box of crayons to occupy herself while everyone else does the real work.

There is a problem that most folks seem to ignore. I was breastfed as a baby and never have been able to give up the habit. 😉
Lucky for me, Mrs Mistella has been understanding and supportive of my addiction.

Ah, insufficient weaning. A common male malady. No cure that I know of.

In this regard, I agree fully with ‘chelle.
As a mom, who has breastfed and faced discrimination (from other mothers!) for doing so, I think we do need a reform in common thinking about it.
Barriers that could be removed:
Nurses and Doctors in maternity wards encouraging it, and talking up the parents about the benefits of it for moms and babies.
Formula companies being restricted in their mailing of free samples to mothers (studies have shown that once it is in the house a mom is more likely to give up and try it in sleep deprived frustration).
Studies also show the huge amount of money that this would save Americans in medical costs and (formula!). Mums have food for their babies for free, right in their breasts. No need to make the government pay for a third party to do what their breasts can do. Go boobs! Also, with my first child I was stuffed in a small closet to pump for my baby. I hated it so much that I wound up quitting my job, because if I started paying for formula, it officially would cost more to work than to not work (between formula and daycare). So yah, for a while my poor hubs couldn’t get to play with them without getting squirted in the face, but the nugs are back to their normal state and he doesn’t seem to have minded the intermission.First damn thing that ‘chelle has done that truly makes sense to me.

oh and @ curtis dude up there- this would actually be worthy of attention in regards to some of those “bigger things”
He wants to save Americans money in healthcare (supposedly) but that one smidgen of a thing- nursing the babies- would cut costs a truly mindboggling amount.
And if we managed to stop being the only civilized nation without mandatory paid leave for moms, that would go a long way toward improving the behavior of our kids. Some places even require dad to take time off when he has a kid.

What’s that they say, ‘pics or it didn’t happen’?

Of course, you may regret it if it is like the scene in ‘Something about Mary’. I never thought that pics of boobs could be a bad thing until I saw that movie.

I’m not gonna tell you that breastfeeding is a bad thing — but I do think that in the list of causes for first ladies to go gallivanting over (literacy, etc.,) that this is one of the lesser ones. She can do less damage here than with the food thing or patient dumping, so I’m all for it.

True, our culture has more hangups over breastfeeding — and plenty of places of employment have draconian policies. I think in some cases, breastfeeding mothers need to also consider the sensitivities of the people around them. If I cannot have my NASCAR calendar at the workplace, what makes the women I work with think that I would be happy about them whipping it out? I don’t ask that they hide under a rock — just that they don’t wave ’em around in meetings — and get all belligerent about it when I say that that’s a bit much.

Oh man, no – no – no. No woman would go whipping them out to pump, unless she’s on crack.Eventually the workplace I mentioned partitioned off an area and put nice chairs to nurse (after I left). No way was I gonna whip out my nugs in front of strangers to pump.

Wait a minute..I was told by HR that my attempt at breast feeding was against company rules!! Something about sexual harassment.

Can I sue??
