Have you ever noticed that the only time Democrats talk about compromise is when they’re in the minority?

by editor on December 18, 2010

Suddenly, out of the blue, Democrats have discovered a new fascination with the concept of compromise. Working together. Bipartisan efforts. Finding common ground.

Ahhh, how times have changed since President Obama famously declared, “I won” and began shutting Republicans completely out of the process.

Robert Gibbs explains that this is all a result of the November elections:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs hopes everyone in Washington grows up once a Republican majority takes control of the House of Representatives in January.

“I think that was the message in this election, was people are going to have to be able to sit down at the tables like adults, discuss issues like adults, come out of that room and get results for American people like adults,” Gibbs said Monday night on MSNBC. “I think if adulthood can break out, that’s a good thing.”

Incoming House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a “60 Minutes” interview that aired Sunday that he will find “common ground” with Democrats but not “compromise” with them.

But Gibbs said he doesn’t see much of a distinction. “I think no matter what we call it, we are going to have to work together next year.”

Wrong, Robert. The message from this election wasn’t that people want common ground. The message was that the people really hate what Democrats have done to the country.

But you just keep thinking what you’re thinking and doing what you’re doing and you’ll get another message in 2010.

Adulthood? Seriously? This from an administration with a President who acts like a sophomore in high school attending the prom for the first time. Adulthood indeed!
