“Vote for me because I’m black” campaign strategy blackfires in Tennessee congressional race

by editor on August 9, 2010

If a white candidate had campaigned in the south by saying, “Vote for me because I’m white”, it would have been featured at the top of every newscast. But, somehow, someway, it garnered nary a mention when a black candidate said, “Vote for me because I’m black.”

Fox News has the discriminatory details:

Steve "White Devil" Cohen and Willie "Vote For Me Because I'm Black" Herenton

In a move that may have shocked even his most ardent supporters former Memphis mayor Willie Herenton stated flat out that his campaign for a seat in Congress to represent Tennessee in the 9th district will be based on race.

Holding up a picture of the 9th district representatives Herenton said, “This is an 11-member delegation. If you look at this picture, and you’re African-American, you sense the lack of representation,” ostensibly because there are no black congressmen or senators.

His opponent for the seat, incumbent Steve Cohen may be white, be he is also Jewish. He is the only Jewish member from Tennessee. What Herenton seems to have overlooked is that the largely black ninth district elected Cohen to his present position.

Herenton, who once referred to the residents of east Shelby county as “white devils” has made quite a name for himself by not hesitating to whip out the race card to get what he wants. During his almost twenty years as Memphis mayor Herenton made an issue of race and once, after another reelection victory said that “God had ordained him” for the position.

Apparently, God did not ordain a position in Congress for Herenton, because he only got 21% of the vote, which is about 21% more than he should have received.

Cohen’s campaign strategy should have been, “Vote for me because I’m not a race baiting moron.” That’s a Democrat platform we could have supported.

Just a note that the story has an error in it. The 11 members referred to are not the 9th District delegation, but the entire Tennessee delegation.

Well, it DOES get the black vote, but if we could get the liberal, feel good, guilty, white people to quit buying it, it would fail most of the time. You’re still going to have Maxine Waters and others like her that are from predominantly black districts, but they might be less influential.

I hope it gets to the point where campaigns like this, based on race, do blow up in the face of the race-baiter. And yes, that *does* include our HALF-WHITE president!

However, due to all the destructive anti-American policies he’s been pushing he may be the LAST one it works for, at least among voters with functioning brains and at least a lick of common sense.
