Why you feel poorer. Because you are poorer:

“For those still working, most are losing purchasing power each year. Wages are not keeping up with inflation, even the understated numbers reported by government. In short, the decline of a once-great economic power is well underway. The country is no longer growing enough to raise everyone’s standard of living. Government has killed the golden goose and in an attempt to hide the obvious is debauching the dollars. Government tries to hide their own failure with phony statistics and a welfare state designed to placate the masses.”

My job is going away in a couple of weeks, & in trying to find new employment, that old health care thing really comes into play. If you don’t understand that have to have it to be legal & if you don’t get that the IRS is in charge of compliance, you will be in for a shock if you come up against this. Also, if you supported this idiocy, go fuck yourself. Employers are starting to dump coverage because it’s cheaper to pay the fine, & you thought you could get something for nothing.

Damn Dany, what kind of work do you do?
There seems to be lots of “unintended consequences” to this POS law!
I was talking to an agent the other day to try to find a basic catastrophic policy for my wife, something outside of Obamacare, and he confirmed the fact that the enrollments by the young are not coming in. They are opting to pay the fines because they are MUCH less expensive than coverage, and since they use little or no healthcare anyway, why not just pay it out of pocket. There are next to no people he has signed up for Obamacare that are under 35, with most being over 40, and those under 35 have preexisting conditions that make their cost of care much higher than the average. Where they would have previously been put into a high risk pool, and had to pay higher premiums, now they are in the pool with everyone else, but the pool is much smaller, and therefore, come “open season” when premiums are going to have to be adjusted to compensate for increased costs, there are going to be MAJOR price increases. More people are going to be dropping out of the exchanges, and this entire debacle will be on the fast track to implosion. Then, to top it off, if the current lawsuits against the government, for breaking the law and offering subsidies to people from states that opted out of the law, are successful, entire states populations will be dropping their plans because they will have become unaffordable. This entire mess has completely fucked up the best healthcare system in the world, and will effectively force single payer, and we’ve all seen what single payer healthcare in this country is like on a miniscule scale with the VA debacle. You can expect to see a much higher mortality rate in this country, from conditions that used to be routine care situations.
I spoke to a lady the other day who has a disability, and is on Medicaid. She has a 20 year old daughter that is in college, and who tried to sign up for Obamacare, and she was refused, because they expect her to remain on her mother’s plan until she is 26. The problem is, she isn’t allowed on her mother’s Medicaid plan! The woman spent an hour on the phone with the Obamacare people and got nowhere! They kept going around in circles, she’s caught in a classic “Catch 22”. This president has effectively destroyed healthcare in the US, and he did it on purpose.

The intention, I think, was to screw up health insurance so badly, we all will be screaming for single-payer. A variation of Cloward Piven.

I don’t think that there will be much screaming for single payer, now that the mess of the VA is out in the open. People will see that and be screaming for their old insurance.

Poppa, what did you find out about the catastrophic policy? I thought Obamacare eliminated that kind of policy because every policy now has to have all the bells and whistles the federal government requires.

If you are paying the fine, you can get any policy you want. It’s just a matter of finding an agent that is willing to work a little.
I just heard on the radio today about a plan for Christians that is a self insuring group plan that allows you to have coverage without paying for someone’s Plan B drugs. The only requirements are you must belong to a church or prayer group, and be a non smoker. Family plans start under $400/month. Too bad my wife is a smoker, you have to be tobacco free for a minimum of 12 months.
If anyone is interested, the phone number is:
1-855-412-4253. They are called Medshare.

Interesting. We just got notice our plan is going up over 50%. We’re telling them to stuff it – sideways.

JPTravis

Wait a minute, let me get this straight: you have to pay for the catastrophic plan AND pay the Obamacare fine? What sort of bullshit is that?

Red Robster

I submit that the sort of bullshit that it is, is the typical sort we find most prevalent today.

It’s still cheaper than the requisite coverage under OjerkoffDeathPanels.

Poppa, I have done grocery for a long time, the company that owned our chain has wanted out of our market for a few years now, & accepted an offer from 3 companies. Each of them are taking over several locations, but there were 9 not purchased, I am at 1 of those stores. What is happening is that with the new contracts, anyone under 30 hours will lose their health & dental. Many are being offered 25-28 a week part time, & will lose their coverage. Then there are full time employees who are being offered part time gigs, that doesn’t fly for most of them, & some are being rejected outright. The loss of insurance is all about saving money by paying the fine. I’m not sure if those folks understand that the law requires you to have insurance under Obamacare, or that the IRS is in charge of enforcement.

I will find gig with coverage, but it makes it hard to something decent that keeps you legal.

Sorry to hear that Dany. Grocery is a tough job, the hours are never enough because of them trying to cut costs.

danybhoy

Thanks, & Yeah, it can be tough. Plus, when the market is flooded with an excess of people looking for work, like in the case of what’s going on up here, there will be losers. That is also a reason they can make crap offers knowing that someone will eventually take the position. Very few folks were in any position to call the shots on getting something new, & particularly if they are coming from a store that was not purchased.

mostly 32 hrs a week but sometimes less, last month I had a week of just 16 hrs. makes it tough to pay the bills, but so far I am ok. and once my house sells and I move to a smaller home, I will be more comfortable.

poppajoe49

Oh crap! Are you at least getting interest in the house? Do you have another home lined up?
I’m sorry to hear that. It’s never easy to leave a place you lived in for a long time, so many memories of the kids growing up, etc. Moving into a smaller place can take some adjusting, especially when the kids are still at home. I hope everything works out well, and happens within a comfortable timeline for you.

As usual, the government uses a system to determine inflation thats devoid of reality. Only a matter of time before the pitchforks and torches come out.

poppajoe49
Guest
poppajoe49

EXACTLY!
There is no inflation, except in unnecessary things like energy and food.
I was in Wal Mart yesterday shopping for fixings to make meatballs. Ground pork is $3.89/lb! Pork used to be cheaper than chicken! Now that they are using all the corn to make gasoline that is tearing up your car engine instead of feeding livestock and people. Two years ago you used to be able to get a dozen ears of corn for $1.00 to $1.20, now it’s $3.00! Gasoline has doubled in price, electricity and heating oil, are up. Natural Gas is the only thing going down, but these assholes are trying to stop fracking, and therefore ending our chances at energy independence through Natural Gas. But everything is OK, because there is no inflation, just like the unemployment rate is dropping.

Barry should be arrested right now…
As a foreign and domestic enemy of the United States,
The evidence is overwhelming,
Look at the number of unemployed exceeding 100,000,000,
Look at “obamacare tax” and the disarray caused by that piece of crap,
The nation is in chaos, all originating from the former White House.

TeriDavisNewman

Welfare has been used for 30 years as a way to keep the poor under control and from marching in the streets. Look at what happens when the cards go down–and that is how Obama will institute martial law–shut off the EBT cards and there will be blood in the streets.

At least if they do that it will be the end of “tolerance” toward them.

Sidekick

Cut off the flow of welfare for two weeks and let’s see how placated the masses remain. Anyone remember the Wal-Mart story with the failed EBT cards? Just a glimpse as to why we will never rid ourselves of generational welfare.

KimmyQueen
Member

You know…

if there were people who were very capable and perhaps have some financial backing and are able to do things in stealth would somehow sabotage all welfare to the point where it will be hard to get it back up for week, better months or years…

After the initial violence people will have to go to work, yes there will be a lot of people in prison but even then they need to put them to work.

You missed the point again. As long as the “dead broke” but otherwise well-heeled friends of the President are not getting poorer, and millions of government employees are not getting poorer, then the system is working just the way it’s supposed to. You taxpayers are SUCH whiners.
