1984... what a literary shitshow. Sorry, I was forced to read that rag in 11th grade english class. I hope the folks that just bought this book enjoy it as much as I didn't.

I read enough of it to catch the underlying theme and message they wanted me to absorb. Wrote an A paper and never finished the book. Maybe it got better? ;)
I liked it a lot, but not nearly as much as Brave New World.
Yeah. I enjoyed the book when I was high school age, but I tried watching the movie recently and it was just depressing as hell. I felt the same way about trying to read "The Road" a few years ago. I decided to stop torturing myself. I passed it off as a Christmas present to my niece's shiny new husband.
I was when I read it for the first time. What amazes me though is the breakneck pivot of these people (and I'm assuming most of them are the types that get all their news from a facebook feed) from not caring about the Obama the Orwellian Architect to going all chicken little because the words "Alternative Facts" were spoken to reference facts that the Mainstream Ministry of Truth won't report because it hurts the current truth. It astounds be the amount of mental compartmentalization that is necessary to carry this off. We seriously have people that have spent the last several years telling us that a boy can become a girl by thinking about it hard enough that are now going to lecture us on how 2 plus 2 does not equal 5.
