‘Budget-Crunched’ VA Has 167 Interior Designers On Staff

‘Budget-Crunched’ VA Has 167 Interior Designers On Staff. Well it must be nice for dying veterans who are spending months in the waiting room to see a doctor to have some foo-foo around to look at.

CO2Insanity: Tired of the CO2 BS and all the other BS in the US and the world.

  • It's interesting that this came up now.
I went to my VA Hospital yesterday for a 2pm CT scan appointment. They only had one machine working, and were horribly behind schedule. They were only handling one patient every half hour, in spite of the fact that each patient was in for their scan for an average of 7 minutes. At 5:15 pm, I was getting a headache and jittery from being hungry, so I left. I couldn't stay there and wait any longer.
What really annoyed me was that last time I was there for a CT scan, they only had one machine working. It seems to me that after 3 months, they should have either gotten the machines fixed, or done better at scheduling patients.
Fortunately for me, my congressman is on the Veteran's Affairs Committee. I wrote him about this, and will see where it goes. But, since I am on good terms with him, I think things will be fixed pretty quick. He helped me expedite my disability claim, and we correspond at least monthly about illegal immigration.

    • Don't get me started on VA stories. The place is mind-blowingly inefficient. Here's my little secret which I will share with you: there is a "patient advocate" who walks around with a figurative big stick. When you talk to a patient advocate and tell them what your problem is, SHIT GETS DONE/FIXED/SOLVED IN A HURRY. Apparently, after the scandals started, they gave the patient advocates new and formidable powers which scare even federal bureaucrats.

  • My dad's VA was moved from nearby to a place so far south of town it takes us 45 minutes just to get there--instead of 10 minutes. And then when we get there, they have this beautifully landscaped parking lot and front area that requires parking about 50 yards from the building, even if you use a handicapped spot. The old building allowed you to park right next to the entryway so the old vets wouldn't have to walk so damn far, ya know? I have to drop him off at the door now because the walk would be too far, but to do that I have to negotiate past the shuttle buses which used to, IN THE OLD BUILDING, use a different entryway. Now everybody is clustered up at the new entrance, cursing and swearing at the buses which sit there for ten minutes waiting for passengers, clogging up the drive.

Then, when I finally get him into the new building, there's all this beautiful open space: you know, the open space interior decorators love. You know what it represents to old vets? MORE DAMN OPEN SPACE THEY HAVE TO GET ACROSS ON THEIR FUCKED UP OR MISSING LEGS! I swear to God, the first thing people seem to do when they go to work for the federal government is have their brains cut out.
