Campus employee assaults white student for “cultural appropriation”: The great thing about Western Culture is that in addition to its own developments it has borrowed from and improved upon the the good that other cultures offered. That is what makes it the best, most tolerant, equitable and freest of the various systems. So as proud ambassadors of this noble tradition we would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to this culture Nazi to freely appropriate some of ours or join it outright. There is no guarantee it would make her a happier person, but it would certainly make her a better one.

  • She assaulted him ... put her ass in jail... She does not own him. He can wear his hair in whichever way he wants.

    • Good point. And as far as appropriation goes I can certainly understand a backlash against colonialism. That system often stole resources (including conscripted labor) and left inhabitants worse off for the forced exchange. But now that the door can swing both ways and there can be a real cultural exchange I don't see why people would object to sharing what was special about their history especially when what is great about their history can improve a cultural we can all share. And I don't think we can assume the culture you choose has to have something to do with your ancestors. I love Western Culture. I love the enlightenment. But my ancestors were not Romans or Greeks or Scots or English or French. My ancestors did not contribute a lot to it. But in the end it doesn't matter. As an American (because we are a melting pot) I have a full portion of the culture I love.

      Of course I don't understand how a haircut amounts to culture. That seems like a pretty low bar.

  • Many think this is faked. My daughter went to SF State and told me there's white kids running around with dreadlocks all over the place.

    • There's something off about it. Looks to me like she has a grin on her face most of the time. And she's cute enough that a normal young man's reaction to being pushed into a wall like that would be to kiss her, not argue with her. I mean, that's what I would have done...

      As for the dreadlocks thing: I thought it was impossible for white people to have dreadlocks. Am I wrong?

        • But how is that possible? The whole point is you don't have to wash your hair and take as much care, right? And white people and black people are different that way. White people's heads exude oil and we have to wash it out all the time. Black people have dry scalps and have to put oil in. Since hair needs to be dry to make dreads, a white person is going to be constantly trying to wash his hair to make dreadlocks happen, probably even more than he had to wash his hair before. Seems stupid.

          • It IS stupid. Beyond that, it's ugly as sin. I like to look at a person's head and see hair, not matted smelly rope. A young lady I know just recently got rid of her dreads. I knew she was a very pretty girl, but the dreads really got in the way of her beauty. Now, she's 100% beautiful.

          • Yeah, and that's what I'm saying, I think they would only turn smelly on white people. I think on black people they wouldn't smell because black people don't produce all that scalp oil like white people.

  • I totally called this one without seeing the races in another site. Aren't most of the English language, military traditions, etc, basically "appropriations"? Just saying.
