Dick’s Sporting Goods Halts Sale Of Firearms To Buyers Under 21

Dick’s Sporting Goods Halts Sale Of Firearms To Buyers Under 21. There must be a lot of pissed off customers. We got on their chat to tell them where to stick their store and we would have had over an hour wait.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is banning sales of assault weapons across all its stores after the Parkland, Fla. school shooting.

The nation’s largest sporting goods retailer announced the move Thursday in an open letter and an appearance by CEO Ed Stack on Good Morning America.

The retailer will also end sales of high-capacity magazines and sales of guns to people under 21 years old.

  • Guess it’s time to go back to local sporting goods stores plus Cabellas and Bass Pro Shop have much of what I need

  • Update: Evidently they quit selling AR-15 type rifles after Sandy Hook. So Dick appears to be full of shit.

  • Raising the minimum age on things always brings you back to the argument we used to use during the Vietnam era when they were raising the drinking age everywhere: How can you tell me I'm not old enough to have a beer but at the same time tell me I'm old enough to go to Vietnam and die for my country?

    • I couldn't buy a beer, I couldn't even vote until I turned 21 but I was old enough to carry a M-16 and hump my gear in Cambodia trying to protect them damn jarheads who went on patrol and didn't hit our pick-up point in time.

But, being blessed to come from a small town, the local beer joint owners knew my family. When I got a little leave time to come home and visit they would tell me to sit by the back door so if need be I could sneak out if the law came around checking. The Frontier still had a shuffleboard table back then and a couple of pool tables. I could go to Blackie's to chase the girls and dance all night because they had live music Friday and Saturday nights. But I still wasn't old enough to vote which I thought was bullshit at the time. But I have changed my mind over the years. 25 year old kids are no more mature than 16 year olds were when I was that age. They still live in mommies basement, they don't know how to take care of themselves because nobody taught them, or made them, stand up and be an adult.

Oh, for you youngsters around here a shuffleboard table is a long narrow table made of wood. You had to slide a puck down the table and if you didn't hit the marks or went off the end you got no score. Think of it like that olympic curling nonsense only nobody can do any sweeping for you!

  • Let them. Corporate policy is their decision. Me, I'll never spend a dime in their stores because their prices are high.

  • Never been in Dick's Sporting Goods. I have seen them but I prefer buying local. I wonder if they sell knives, climbing hammers and other sharp and dangerous stuff? Bet they keep selling that. Just another pandering business who has the taste of liberal ass in their mouth.

    • I have one nearby. They seldom have anything I want. Their gun stock sucks, they don't have large quantities of ammo and not a great selection of either. I'd rather drive to Bass Pro in Manteca or even go to Big 5.

        • Don't take your black powder revolver into their indoor range. Some guy did that at the Bass Pro in Grapevine. They had to evacuate the store when the smoke detectors went crazy. The police and fire department showed up soon after. The guys would did it spent some quality time with handcuffs on. They let them go after things calmed down. They could not think of any crime to charge them with. Needless to say, those guys are not allowed back in that store.

          • Why would anyone waste money to pay to shoot any weapon at an indoor shooting range? Even city folks should be able to find an arroyo, riverbed, city dump, someplace with a backstop to do some target practice. And even a 2 hour round trip drive is cheaper than paying a sporting good store to use their indoor range. Plus, you can't sight in a .308, a 30.30, a 30.06, even a .22 super mag rifle, in a building that may have 25 yards distance max.

All those indoor things are good for is a pistol and anyone who knows anything about hand guns knows that you are shit out of luck if your target is further away than 15 yards. Why waste the money when you can find some open land and shoot away?
