Donald Trump Praises Scotland for Taking ‘Country Back’ — Even Though It Voted to Remain: Meh. Scotland is in Great Britain and Great Britain voted to leave. As far as gaffs this doesn’t even appear to be one. It isn’t as if he claimed there are 57 states, Austrian is the official language of Austria, that 19th Century America built an intercontinental railroad or called the people that deliver babies obee-guy-nees.

  • I heard Scotland was going to try to break from Great Britain, and rejoin the EU.
    Trump really needs to find out what's happening before he says dumb stuff.

    • Of course you know, Scotland voted down a break away referendum from the UK a few years ago.

      I think it is wishful thinking that Scotland will get a referendum and still remain in or rejoin the eu. However, good luck to them as Scotland is a net drain on the rest of the UK. It would be another win for them.

      As it stands, Scotland is in GB and hence his words were true. Facts are stubborn things.

          This is the problem with polls. All their polls were skewed to be a landslide for stay so I bet a lot of people stayed home feeling smug and surprise. Brexit won.

        • I should have been more clear. I doubt that Scotland will get both an independence yes vote, and somehow remain in the eu or be able to rejoin the eu. At least anytime soon. Plus the eu already has the PIGS. The near term is for Neaderlands, Hungary, and Austria to leave. France will stay, their plebes know their place but with LePen who knows.

          The Scots have the highest welfare of the UK. Threatening to leave will be met with smiles in the rest of GB.

  • I think he has Scottish ancestry and he has Scottish business interests, so maybe he was expressing his relief considering that it is part of the U.K, but without realizing that they did not separate at the time he said it (I didn't know until later reports that they didn't). It was silly of Scotland to remain especially considering how they have fought so hard to have some kind of independence from England throughout time... so they are good with being annexed to the EU :-/ They actually believe that they will finally be fully independent by being annexed to the EU? It doesn't make sense to me but what do I know?

    • No, they're part of the UK, so Brexit applies to them, too, but they have the option of leaving the UK and THEN rejoining the EU. Meanwhile, like it or not, they're leaving the EU along with the rest of the UK. If they vote to leave the UK, they will be like a bouncing ball: in the EU, out of the EU, and then back in the EU. Kind of humorous when you think about it.

      They'd be idiots to leave the UK. The UK has this silly formula that allocates a larger percentage of total spending to Scotland than Scotland's percentage of the UK's population. As a result of all that extra money coming in, they offer welfare bennies in Scotland that the rest of the UK doesn't get.
