Libertarian frontrunner Gary Johnson gets booed at party convention. Looks like maybe another political party has outlived its principles.

  • Red States sums it up pretty well in the process of explaining why Gary Johnson is NOT a libertarian:

    "Like Democrats, Johnson is in favor of legalizing only marijuana. Libertarians are in favor of all drugs being legal. Like Democrats, he is in favor of government-sponsored gay marriage. Libertarians oppose government involvement in marriage. Like Democrats, he believes that businesses must cater (literally-he believes Jews should have to bake Nazi cakes) to anyone and everyone. Libertarians believe in freedom of association and freedom of conscience/religion. Like Democrats, he supports funding for Planned Parenthood. Libertarians oppose government subsidization of private organizations. Like Democrats, Johnson is in favor of some gun control. Libertarians oppose restrictions on gun ownership."

    • Yep... bitch is not an independent and he is not a libertarian AS PER libertarian core values or tenets. He is as much of a libertarian and independent as Obama is a Christian. I have no respect for him whatsoever and it is astonishing that Andy Levy who claims left and right that he is a Libertarian supports this man.

  • I generally identify as a "small L" Libertarian and Johnson is a joke. He's the equivalent of the "conservative" politicians that jumped on the "Tea Party" bandwagon, trying to latch onto an emerging populist trend.

    That's why it's hard for me to align with any particular party. I don't align with 100% of Libertarian principles but I'd rather vote that way than align with the BS two party system that has been running stuff for well over a hundred years. I still wouldn't vote for Johnson despite his proclaimed party allegiance.

    I vote for principles, not party but the former is lacking everywhere these days. There's a reason why politicians have been characterized as crooks for years and years, it's just more obvious these days. Compared to many/most politicians these days, Nixon was a freaking saint.

  • I don't like this dude because he believes in slavery (as in forcing people to do something against their will and using the government to do it - gay marriage/bakers). Very weird for a libertarian.

      • That's what really irritates me. The Libertarian Party is all about marijuana now, as if that's the most important issue of our time.

        • The leftist media and it's RINO associates would like you to believe that's what Libertarianism is all about. Nothing could be further from the truth. And Johnson is NOT a Libertarian. Not even close.

          • Yeah, it's sad to see the party I've been a member of for decades do this, but it's not like he hasn't been our candidate in the past. That said, he WOULD be better than Trump, Hillary, or Bernie.

  • I don't see the libertarians having much choice. In the 2012 election Johnson got over 1 million votes, far more than any third party candidate has ever gotten, and they don't have anyone else with that kind of name recognition.

    • Good grief. The political party system is completely broken. Nobody truly represents the party they pretend to. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump don't even pretend: the former calls himself an independent socialist, the latter calls himself a Democrat or Republican depending on his mood. Now we have Gary Johnson, a former Republican governor who became a marijuana salesman, representing the Libertarian Party. Hey, Libertarians, libertarianism is not supposed to be some New Age hippie thing! And for a running mate he picked a RINO governor who endorsed John Kasich? Seriously? What a joke.

      • I can't believe they gave it to him, but then, the way nominations are running this year, almost anything is believable.

  • I'm not the least bit surprised that he was booed. Picking William Weld as his VP choice? Not very Libertarian of him, plus, this position from Weld will blow his whole campaign:
    At one point, Weld said he would stay in the United Nations.

    • No true Libertarian thinks the U.N. is a good thing. I look at Libertarianism the same way I look at a lot of other things that people claim to be. If a person doesn't follow the teachings of Christ, are they truly a Christian? If a person believes in the Constitution, are they truly a Democrat? If a person goes along to get along with Democrats, are they truly a Republican? If a person is peaceful, can they truly be a Muslim? Claims are one thing, actions often quite another.
