Afternoon Haters! More proof our society and courts are out of their frigging minds. A Texas court has ruled in favor of a woman who has decided her 6 year old son is transgender and he should be chemically castrated when he turns 8. The father keeps sitting on his ass doing nothing but wait for more court battles? Not in my world.
Maybe if they lowered their prices? They plan to open more stores instead. More proof that business schools no longer teach their MBAs how to actually run a business.
And Booms, that piece of shit that Candice Bergen brought back from the dead is gone, Died after just 13 episodes... .09 for a rating, which is about half of the infomercial " Do You Poop Enough?"
I caught a couple minutes of it last week. Ohmygod it was horrible. Hollywood just can't seem to learn. They keep losing money on leftwing propaganda shows when they could be making money with rightwing shows. Look at "Last Man Standing." Cancelled by ABC even though it was the second-rated show on TV, then brought back by Fox where it's getting good ratings again.
So the men are fleeing their country in fear of violence but the women all stayed home where they have to live in that violence? What does that make the men of Central America?
Another dry turkey today, dammit. Sigh. Not as bad as the legendary turkey of 2004 when I put it in an oven bag and was waiting for the little pop-out "I'm done!" thingie to pop out but I didn't realize the oven bag was so tight across the pop-out that it couldn't pop out and by the time I realized the unpoppable pop-out situation the turkey was so overcooked it was literally impossible for a human being to chew and swallow even one bite of it... but this year's bird was still pretty bad. The turkey of 2004 will probably never be equaled. We actually took bets. You could've walked away with a serious pile of money if you could have chewed and swallowed a bite of that turkey. At one point, trying to defend my cooking, I threw ten bucks on the table and six people matched it. I had to empty my wallet to match the bet. All I had to do was chew and swallow one medium bite of that damn turkey. I spent almost ten minutes trying. It was like chewing drywall. You've heard of the cinnamon bet? It was like that. It seemed like you could do it and you'd keep trying but you couldn't get it down. After ten minutes I looked like a dog with peanut butter in his mouth. Never did manage to swallow.
I deep fry mine in the butterball frier. We’ve also brined it in the past and infrared fried it. Frees up the oven and it is pretty juicy. Sorry your Turkey didn’t turn out.
I've got one too (gas burner, not the electric one) and they do a great job. But geez, 25 bucks for enough peanut oil to fry a 15$ bird rubs me wrong. I strained the oil and used it again at Christmas that year, but still... the smell is amazing tho!
I use the cheapest store brand vegetable oil I can buy and it works just fine. Whoever told us we had to use peanut oil must own stock in a peanut farm or something.
Good to know. Last I used mine was way back when and that's what they recommended using to keep it from smoking. Corn oil would be a lot cheaper.
I do that, too. No reason not to.
Whenever I cook a whole turkey, it's in the smoker. But this year it was just my lady and I, so I put a couple of thighs in the oven, on top of a bed of sliced onions. A little duck fat sprayed on the onions to help them caramelize nicely, and they were great.
Duck fat isn't all it's quacked up to be.
Actually, it is. It makes things caramelize nicely!
I hope you don't bill by the joke.
Deep fried JP, that is the only way to go. I know we hear stories every year about some fool burning his house down but if you are careful, read the instructions and follow them to the letter, you will have no problems. I have been frying turkeys for years and my house is still standing! I did a 12 pound bird this year, from going into the oil to done took 36 minutes. 3 minutes per pound, stick to that and you will always have the best turkey you have ever eaten. Skin nice and crisp, inside so juicy it runs out in the platter while you are carving.
The butterball frier makes it impossible to F up. Technically you can use it inside, but we put it on the lanai to keep the grease from coming inside.
Okay, maybe I don't have what you have. There's no deep frying action going on with what I have. It's just a big electric pot the turkey cooks in, and they tell you not to remove the top to look at it so you can't even squirt juice on it occasionally.
Squirt juice… we still talking turkey? Or are we revisiting that chubby intern thing again?
If that's how you baste your turkey, I'm never coming to your house for Thanksgiving.
LMOAO....
I agree. Sadly, I've only heard about deep fried turkey and how awesome it is, but never managed to be somewhere I could taste it. After the Legendary Turkey of 2004, one of my son-in-laws bought me a turkey deep fryer for a Christmas present, the bastard. He thought it was hilarious. But unfortunately I live in a condo. One way out is a sliding glass door to a raised deck, another way out is to a little yard between me and my neighbor, and the third way out is through my garage where my driveway is full of guests' cars. There's nowhere I can go to safely deep fry a turkey without having everybody remove their cars from my driveway. I finally sold the unused deep fryer at a garage sale.
Do you have anything like a Boston Market near you? We visited some friends one year and they got their turkey from a deli like that. It was excellent to. That may cost a bit more but it would save you a lot of time and you would have much better turkey for you meal.
I gotta agree with JP on that, electric fryers are a waste of money. One brother bought one and the bird was just as dry as if it had been cooked in the oven.
That's exactly what I've used for the last couple years. It's not the same as deep frying. You overcook the turkey in an electric fryer and it's still dry. It's really no different than putting it in the oven. The only difference seems to be that you save your oven space for other stuff.
Will do again next year only I think I'd finish it in the oven for the last hour next time instead of all on my gas grill. Another tip, head over to thermoworks and get an instant read thermometer. Then, https://amazingribs.com. Read everything you can about the actual science of controlling heat on this website.
I had pop up timer semi-fiasco about 15 years back too. Damn thing refused to pop. I finally got a fork and rubbed it across the top to discover a thin almost invisible membrane of skin was stretched tight over the top holding it down. Scratched it off and it popped, dinner time. It was overcooked, but salvageable with a liberal dose of gravy. We ran out of gravy that dinner!
I remove them now and rely on a digital meat probe.
I hope all the IHTM'ers had a wonderful Thanksgiving day with family and friends. As usual I ate to much, have enough leftovers to last a week, so full right now I don't even want a tall drink. And that is bad!
