  • Though we have a FUBAR for a president. This is still a great nation. If not, how do you explain the invasion at the southern border.

  • Best Thanksgiving ever today. I still can't believe the spread my daughter threw out. Let me see if I can list the choices: Turkey, ham, duck, Cornish hens, corn pudding, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, Jello/fruit salad, corn bread stuffing, hot gravy, mashed potatoes, collard greens, cranberry relish, homemade macaroni & cheese, and some damn delicious homemade bread. And that list doesn't even mention the various appetizers we ate all day leading up to dinner or the millions of desserts that lined the counter afterward or the incredibly diverse drink menu that almost sent me into a snooze before I ever made it to dinner. It was like something out of a Mark Twain novel. Approximately forty people including kids and not a bad apple in the whole bushel.

    • Wow. Sounds like when I was a kid. Food all over the place. We had a quiet day and watched football. My wife made English short ribs that came out great.

      • I'm too old to eat that much food so I chose the duck--cause who gets the chance to eat duck very often?--and brought home two of the cornish hens, stuffing, and macaroni & cheese for today. Now I wish I had some turkey. Ah well... I think I was too groggy to choose wisely.

Sadly, this has always been the day everybody in the family headed out to tramp around a tree farm and cut down a Christmas tree, but daughters texted this morning and informed me their children let her know they are too old for such nonsense and didn't want to do it anymore. Sigh. I have really gotten too old if my grandchildren are too old for nonsense. For some reason I have always enjoyed tramping around in the rain and mud, or cold and snow, whatever the weather happened to be, arguing about which tree was ugly and which tree was attractive, and it got even more enjoyable for me when it was sons-in-law having to kneel and saw instead of me.
