Kerry met with Palestine negotiator Hussein Agha in London and told him to “hold on and be strong,” and to tell Palestinian President Abbas to “stay strong and play for time and [don’t] break and give in to President Trump’s demands,” because there was “a good chance Trump won’t last a year.”

Lol...I still have an old P-38 on my keychain. And "hot meals"? We couldn't carry enough heat tabs during the monsoons, we were using them to create a little heat in our ponchos we had to wrap around ourselves to try to sleep.
And the cigarettes? hahaha. I swear they came from some old WWII warehouse. Luck Strikes, Camels and Pall Mall non filters. 5 to a pack and drier than a popcorn fart. Put a light to the end you better be inhaling because it was going to flash burn right to your lips in a second! When we did get more modern rations and got some Marlboros we hoarded them for our own use when nobody was looking. Did anyone eat those cans of ham and lima beans? Too long ago but I don't remember anyone getting that hungry.
Nothing ever changes. Infantrymen eat crap in the field, always have and always will. My dad used to get so angry during WWII when he'd walk back to headquarters for an officers meeting and see clean, rested headquarters staff eating hot meals while his grunts were lying around in the mud eating cold food. Then there was the time the French resistance kept begging him for gasoline and he was giving them what he could until they invited him to their headquarters for a meeting and they ate warm bread and butter and drank wine right in front of him without offering him any. That was the end of their gasoline! Next time they asked, he said no. Dad said he thought about that warm bread and butter for the next two months.
No close relatives who served in WWII but one uncle was in Korea and the stories he told me were sickening. While the mucky-mucks sat in Pusan or Tokyo, eating real eggs for breakfast and steaks for dinner, the troops in the field were lucky to get any kind of rations. He told me about one time they couldn't even get ammo but were expected to hold their position while they were freezing their asses off because replacements and supplies were on the way. He told me it took about 3 days for everything to get there and a lot of men died because of the delay.
But, we can tell old war stories all day and it does not change the fact that war is an ugly thing. People suffer, people die, and nothing really gets resolved. As soon as one fight is over another starts in a different part of the world and we Americans are expected to do something about it. And because of political bullshit our troops are not allowed to go in, kick ass, get it over with and come home. And that is the stupidest way to fight a war as far as I am concerned. Kill 'em all, let God sort them out. That is how to fight because it will not take long for the enemy to figure out what is happening and they will drop their weapons and surrender. Just like Japan did when we nuked their ass. Complete and total surrender.

None of us wanted to be sent to Vietnam but we were are damned proud of the job we did. His disrespect for all of those who served and died in that FUBAR still chaps my ass.
