Scalia critic Judge Richard Posner sees ‘no value’ in studying the US Constitution

“Eighteenth-century guys, however smart, could not foresee the culture, technology, etc., of the 21st century.”

Maybe those “Eighteenth-century guys” could not foresee all of the future but they knew it well enough to give us their strongest possible guarantee against tyranny, despotism and men of Richard Posner’s authoritarian bent. A guarantee that this totalist wants to demolish and replace with something altogether sinister. Perhaps now is a good time to start wondering why that is.

  • He should be removed from the bench by any political means necessary. Hell, do it unconstitutionally, he doesn't believe in the document that is supposed to guide his judgement, govern our nation, & protect the rights of the citizens. You would then see how quickly he refers to it in defending himself, like the hypocrite you know he is.

  • Judge Poser needs to go away now. Maybe they can send him on a permanent vacation with Charles Rangel.

  • Sad to see dementia take the brain of an old fart..That is why Federal judges need TERM LIMITS....

    • AGREED everyone in elected office needs to have term limits... everyone no matter how small a position and everyone that comes in with them to the office needs to leave with them once they are out of office.

    • Agreed. If a judge in the USA says that studying the US Constitution has no value, that judge should be removed from the bench ASAP

  • Posner is an ass. He figured prominently in the persecution of Conrad Black back in the day, who was imprisoned for years thanks to Posner but eventually saw his convictions reversed. Black was convicted of obstruction of justice for cleaning out his office--in Canada!--at the request of his employer years after U.S. federal attorneys had confiscated and examined everything in that office. It takes an untethered judge with no respect for the law to think U.S. law somehow controls access to a Canadian office and that removing personal effects at the request of the office's owner is a crime.

  • Saw this yesterday and thought--Okay 'your honor.' If 227 years is too long, what is the cut off date for documents/ideas to be considered. Is it 100 years? 1 year? 1 month? 1 week? 1 day? 1 hour?

  • With an attitude like this, 'Judge' Posner is right at the top of Her Majesty's list for appointment to the Supreme Court.
