  • Damn! I didn't need a report like this coming out, it will cause the value of ocean front property I bought in Arizona to drop like a rock! I almost have it sold to a bunch of gullible fools who believe all this globull warming/rising ocean nonsense. (snicker)

  • This would make people with real concern very happy. Since the global warming con men are in it for the money and power, it will bring anguish and tears. And has been noted the adjusted data put out to the stupid people will be wildly higher. Yet, smart and rational people are labeled "deniers" and have threats of government political action against them. Stalin is smiling.

    • Yep. You and I are just not smart enough to understand how falling water levels mean rising sea levels. That's why we have the NOAA, to explain it to us.

    Many people use the terms "ocean" and "sea" interchangeably when speaking about the ocean, but there is a difference between the two terms when speaking of geography (the study of the Earth's surface). Seas are smaller than oceans and are usually located where the land and ocean meet.

    I'm more confused than a warmingist at Barrow.

    • Speaking from my maritime background, which may not reflect the same things a pure scientific background would, the distinction between oceans and seas is somewhat arbitrary, although it mainly relates to size. Thus the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic Oceans. The Med is a sea because it's smaller and mostly enclosed. Other seas are defined by some distinctive feature -- the Caribbean, with its swath of islands, the Sargasso, basically a large slow whirlpool, Sea of Japan, Bering Sea, etc., if you look on a map you can see how most of these relate to some mostly logical land feature.

      THEN you get into gulfs and straits and bays . . .

      • And then there's the briny deep, bounding main, great expanse, and, when the Brits are referring to the Atlantic, the pond. In literature, "ocean" implies depth while "sea" implies breadth: for example, an "ocean" of ignorance is on display from Trump supporters, who seem to be "asea" when it comes to the truth. ;-)
