SITE UPGRADE DONE: OK – problem was the sidebar login plugin. That has been turned off and the regular old Meta login/logout widget has been put up. I think that should do it. Please let me know if you have any problems with anything. I’ll check the posts here for awhile.

POSTING AND COMMENT UPDATE: Posters, I added a new category “News 2016” please check that when you post. You can use another category like “Politics” or “Guns” along with it if you like. This helps with the SEO.

COMMENTORS: I removed a lot of words we didn’t allow like the f-bomb, I left a few in. If your post doesn’t show up right away it’s usually because one of the banned words is in there. Then it has to wait until I edit it. The words I eliminated should reduce this problem.

  • One small quibble. When I log in with the new login at upper right, it takes me to my profile instead of to the IHTM front page. I bet you can fix that.

  • I took out a bunch of IP bans, too. I never did find anyone who uses the site regularly but did it just in case. I left names banned but that's obviously no regulars. If any of the problem people/bots show back up I can re-ban them or if you prefer I can leave them so you can argue with them...lol.

        • Arguing with yourself is a sign of one of two things. Either you're still drunk/hung over, or you're getting senile.
          I'm voting for drunk/hung over, I would be very sad if you were senile.

          • Your dad sounds like me. When I first went to the doc about the lung cancer at the end of the visit I asked him "can you renew one of my blood pressure medications? I don't want to croak from that before the cancer gets me." He looked at me with this kind of blank stare and then started cracking up. I told him we'll get along just fine.

          • Dad doesn't really have cancer or Alzheimers. That was a joke. Dad can't hear for shit and can't see for shit, so he's more than halfway to being Helen Keller, but otherwise he's still motoring along at 96. He seems a little lost without Mom, but I don't know what to do about it. Thinking of heading down to the VFW to see if they have any other WWII vets he could talk to.

          • Sounds like a plan. My dad's 86 still trucking. I notice some problems sometimes but nothing major.

    If you're a contributor I turned the top bar back on for the time being. There's issues with that plugin as they had to delete part of it due to a copyright violation. They have a replacement that supposedly works, I'll give it a try later. If the top bar disappears later it's me.

    • I hate to be the pain in the ass here, CO2, but I'm still having trouble. After I logged on earlier and posted, I clicked the tab closed (but didn't log out), and when I came back an hour or so later, I had to log in again. But the WP log in page hadn't remembered my password change, so I had to change it again. But this time, it didn't accept the password change, and wouldn't let me in. As a matter of fact, by the looks of the number of dots that represented the password, it was using my original.

      That was a few hours ago...and I just tried again, and, after changing the password AGAIN, I was able to get to my profile page, and then into here. BTW, I got the same page (with the wrong password automatically entered) regardless of what I clicked on to log in...the "log in" on the top right side of the main page, after each post, or at the bottom of the thread.

      I'm using Google Chrome, and it supposedly saved the new password each time I changed it, but once I leave the site and try to log in again, WP reverts back to what looks like my original password. I'm gonna leave the site up for as long as I'm on the computer today, but I'm afraid that the next time I shut down it's gonna start all over again.

      • Clear out everything in your browser. I did that then no problems.

        Clear it for the past week, then retry to log on.

          • No dice, bud. I did all the clean up, restarted, and I still had to change the password. The WP log in page is still showing the old password, and I had to paste the new one in. I might do better in FireFox, but I hate to have to use that clunky browser.

            I'll jump through the hoops for a few days to see if it clears up, and if it doesn't, I'll try re-registering.

          • Yup. And I just tried in FireFox. I had to reset the password again, but at least this time the WP log in page had the reset PW. But I couldn't stay logged in if I closed out the site. And, when I tried posting this, I got a WP error page saying I needed to be logged in. Obviously I am, or I wouldn't get the message box. And it's showing I'm logged in on the RH side of the page.

            So I came back to Chrome, and had to log in again. But THIS time, I was able to use the password I had just reset...so it's showing signs of improvement!

            Don't sweat it, my friend...unless there are others having the same problem. If it doesn't clear up for me, I'll re-register. Thanks for yer help...

          • If you have a glut of topics you're subscb to you may want to delete some. I found that helped me in what sounds to me to be a similar challenge some time back

          • Thanks, Rob...but that doesn't really apply in my case, since I don't subscribe to any topics. Years ago when I had problems logging in, I re-registered and had to use a secondary email; one that I rarely use. So alerts for new posts went to an email I never checked.

            Almost forgot to mention...I was stilled logged in when I got on this morning, so that's another step in the right direction.

  • Uhm ok... this is weird... I logged in through wordpress not the site per se. Okay well I hope the kinks get worked out soon.
