  • Back home and things are good at Rancho Whiskey. I'm not depriving any little minnows in the river that the eco freaks say have existed for a million years. Even though they cannot explain how those minnows existed before dams were built and the river dried up every summer between spring melt and summer monsoon rains hit for about a million years.

    The eco freaks cannot even prove those minnows are not the offspring of all the minnows dumped into the lakes by fishermen going home Sunday afternoon, something they have been doing since the dam near where I live was built in 1938.

  • Good morning America! How are you! Got 2 inches of rain yesterday, most rain we have had in 6 months! I found out I had a small leak in the livin groom, it dripped right on the control box for my satellite box, shorting it out. But I pulled the smart card out of the box, turned it upside down on a towel, and damned if it didn't dry out enough to work. Surprised the hell out of me!

    I'm headed out to check the cattle and pastures. I'm sure they are fine but I have to check the spreader dams too! About 10 years ago the idiots at the state EPA came out to all the ranches in the state to make sure our spreader dams did not "negatively affect the natural runoff", meaning less water for the rivers. Which, of course, is complete bullshit.

    For those of you not familiar with the term ranchers in semi arid country build spreader dams to hold back water when we get heavy rains and "spread" the water out to benefit the land instead of allowing the water to cut gullies and just run off the land, doing it no good. Plus it meant a good water hole for our livestock. The geniuses decided that any dam that held back more than 4 feet of water at its deepest point was endangering the environment. None of them could tell us exactly how but by God we were! So we made an agreement with the fools. Those of us who had dams that held back more than 4 feet of water would install culverts to allow the water to run through so I have to make sure I am not killing the river, or something. The water sinks into the ground and finally makes it to the river anyway, it's called an aquifer, but don't try to tell a college boy that.

    The funny part is, the idiots did not specify how many dams we could build so what most of us did was go a mile or so down stream, so to speak, and built another dam to spread the water across even more pasture land. But, I better check just in case a culvert got plugged with weeds or something in case the EPA gestapo decides to do one of their flyovers. Talk to y'all later.

    • LMOAO...I have a Dewalt drill, one of my nephews is a gun smith, I wonder if he could work something out! Wouldn't it be a great conservation piece at a shooting match, especially if it really fired!

  • I live in the sticks and have my own firing range but if I had to go to one in a city I would always be wary. You guys properly stow all your weapons when leaving, but one. The .45 you keep in a pancake holster tucked into your pants in the back. Or a .38 snubnose in an ankle holster. One brother goes to a range in Albuquerque and they patted him down when he joined and never since. He is a valued customer and friends with the owners so no problemo bro! Of course New Mexico is a little more lax about such things so I'm sure other states are much different in their laws concerning shooting ranges.
